1979 Ford Ranchero GT. Is it safe?
1979 Ford Ranchero GT. Is it safe? - 1
Depends on what you're comparing it to. A bicycle? Yes it's quite safe compared to that. Compared a brand new Volvo? No, it's a deathtrap compared to most modern cars.
Safe is a relative term when dealing with old cars. I mean it's probably as safe as a car from 1979 can be as long as you hold it to the safety requirements for 1979.Though as said if you compare it to modern cars older cars like that are absolute deathtraps.
CASE IN POINT… This crash test of a 59 Bel Air and an 09 Malibu
As the other answers pointed out, most old vehicles were built with 1 single premise in mind… More metal means more safety. We have since made great leaps and bounds in vehicle crash test scenerio analysis. Research and testing soon revealed that a vehicle with break away point and impact cushions could greatly increase survival rates. All modern day vehicles are made so that the cab is built like a roll cage with protective structure and the rest of the vehicle has break away points to cushion the impact of a collision. Also, side airbags, and frontal airbags have helped as well. In the old steel vehicles, all the force was transfered throughout the entire car and led to dashed and floor boards being shoved into your chest and amputating legs and all sorts of gruesome problems…
Hi what do you mean any car that old must have safety issues
- What is the switch on the bottom side of steering column on a 1979 Ford E250 Econline Van? My van will not shift into reverse or park and will not start. I have replaced the neutral safety switch, checked the shift cable and shift cylinder on the steering column. While doing that is see a sliding electrical switch on the bottom of the steering column which works in conjunction with the shift lever. What does this switch do?
- Should I buy a 1977-1979 or a newer model 2010+ Ford truck? I'm looking into getting another truck. For some reason my gut is telling me to get an older carbureted truck. Nothing beats the feeling of driving an old American 4x4 truck. But newer trucks are safer and get better mpg. Looking for some input on this decision.
- How much would it cost to redo the interior of a 1979 Ford F-150? I want to remake the interior of my F150, and I want it to be custom. I'd like a nice wood finish type interior, new seats, gauges, the whole thing. Obviously it depends on what I want and where I go, but could anybody ballpark me?
- 1979 ford f150 sludge/sediment in cooling system? My truck runs hot at speeds above 60. Cooling system has brown/red sludge all in it. I have flushed radiator 3-4 times. I have ran radiator cleaner through it. I hve taken the radiator out and flushed it from every opening. I have replaced thermostat. Truck still overheats and has sludge in system.
