Why is my starter not working on the car?
I have 1959 Ford Fareline Galaxy. The starter is simple and there's no control wire; just a main thick +12V wire controlled by relay. When I take the starter out and correctly wire it directly to battery, bypassing all other components, it does not start. I take it to AutoZone to have it tested and it starts on their machine (I saw it). So I take it back home and wire the starter directly and correctly to another, even more powerful (perfectly charged and functioning) battery and nothing. What is going on? I found a wiring schematic for car and there's no other components between the starter and the battery than the relay which I bypassed. What am I missing?
Added (1). But why did it start at AutoZone with no problems, and no hammers? The starter is only about year old.
Jumping a Ford is as simple as they come. You really can't get it wrong.
Get hammer and hit the rear of the starter. Then jump the starter. If it then spins then you'll need a new starter. The bush at the armature is wore.
Why are you bypassing the relay?
- Why isn't my 1999 Ford Windstar heat not working? Last winter was pretty cold and I have been working to try fixing my heating problem. I took it to a shop and he said I'd have to take it to the dealer. My budget isn't that high so I replaced the blend door acuator myself and that didn't fix my problem. Not sure what to even try. My A/C works fine and air will blow out but absolutely no heat. Need Help!
- Which dealership is best working for, Toyota, Ford, or Honda? (Working on cars)? I'm joining a dealership program with an Internship and would like some help on a decision. I'll be working on cars.
- Why is my overdrive not working? I have a pretty old mustang it's ford mustang 2000 with 194k miles and when i turn the car on I assume it's on since the OD off light doesn't show up, but when I drive it doesn't go passed 40MPH, but when I turn it off, it goes way faster. Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? This just happened out of know where.
- Why are my headlights not working? My headlights are not working on my ford KA (04 plate). I have main beam, side lights and indicators. I have changed the fuses and indicator stalk but still have the same problem. I'm 99.9% certain it is not both bulbs and to be honest I'm struggling to get my hands in to get them out.
