Using a gun against someone trying to break in?

I'm 18. Today around 3:30, my younger sister was walking home when a older man began to follow her home. She didn't get a description because she was scared out of her mind. All we know was that he drove a white Chevy or ford van. After she turned around and ran another way to our house, the man turned and followed her to our home. She got in and locked the door. Shortly after, this man parks in our driveway and begins to try to force himself through our door throwing his shoulder at it. She says that he was a heavier man. Usually I'm the only one home, but this time I had to help my grandmother. Luckily, she called the police and an officer showed up at our door. She also called me so I shot over there. The officer was told the car type and the other details. We also happen to have several firearms in our home. If this man were to come back and try the same thing, would it be legal to threaten him with a shotgun and if necessary to shoot. Usually our parents aren't home till later. Also would I be allowed to chase him away from our house. I'm 18 and live I. Ohio where open carry of firearms is perfectly legal. I will resort to this as a description is just an idea and an officer can't be at our house instantly. ** NOTE** This man had no intention of doing business with my family as a person like that would not follow a 10 year old for two streets.**

Yes that exact same situation has happened multiple times in america and the kid shoots the intruder. It's on the news and everything, and you can find it on youtube.

well, you should still check up your gun laws in your area but self-defense still applies to a home invasion i would guess in all of murica.

YOU would be within your rights to use a firearm in self defense if he forcefully enters the home because you are 18.

Its perfectly legal for your parents to take their 10 year old daughter shooting a let her handle and fire guns under direct supervision. However, your parents could be in legal trouble if it comes to light that they leave firearms unlocked in the home where the 10 year old can access them without supervision. You'd need to double check your state laws.

You can only use deadly force when you think your life or another's life if in grave danger, of death, or great bodily harm. Anytime someone breaks into your home you know they are not there to present you with a Publishes Clearing House check, they are there for some other dastardly deed, and you have every right to shoot them, but only as long as they are a threat.

No problem fake question… How is it that he didn't break the door down as your story falls apart
