Noise coming from engine on ford ranger?
I own a 97' ford ranger v4. I noticed this afternoon that there's an unusual noise coming from the engine area or under the hood noise. The noise could be best described as rock shaking inside a metal container or as a bicycle's busted wheel bearings and you can hear the bearing grinding while the wheel spins. The noise is constant and appears during idle. The noise goes away as soon as I press the accelerator even by pressing a bit, but comes back right after I release the accelerator. Is it the chain thing inside the engine, that's my only guess.
It sounds like a timing chain that has lost one of the guides. This happens on some cars, and it's not terribly expensive to fix… But the whole front of the engine has to be disassembled, and the guides replaced. I wouldn't put it off, because if it skips a tooth, it's all over.
You might remove the belt and start it back up first, an idler pulley or a thermactor pump can be at fault but i can't hear it from here.
system prechecks before internal engine guesses are cheap.
- Whorling/ Swirling noise coming from 2008 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor I have a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. It is an EX State Trooper Car. When I drive it, the car makes a whorling/swirling kind of noise, it isn't loud like a wheel baring but you sure can notice the sound. Also it seems like when the two front tires fully rotate, they act like they (or one of them) are going into a small hole.
- Ticking noise coming from engine? - 1 I have a 1978 Ford Ranchero and there's a ticking noise coming from the passenger side In engine. And this car was given to me and I had my camshaft, timing chain set, and all 16 lifters changed what can this noise be? Could it be from a bad rocker arm? And what can I do to quiet this noise. I'm broke so I can't do any further expensive repairs
- Rattling noise coming from passenger side possibly engine when going up steep hills, for ranger? I ave a 2007 ford ranger and recently when going up hills there has been a rattling noise that seems to come from the passenger side towards the engine or front of the truck. What could cause this? I also recently had an oil change, and they put 5w30 in instead of the recommended 5w20, could any of this be a cause?
- 2000 ford ranger 6 cylinder engine is making a taping noise? I left it set more a couple months and now it is making a taping noise when I start it. My friend had a stethoscope with a rod on it… He held it to the valve covers and block to listen. I heard nothing on valve cover and only heard it slightly on the block, but it was really loud on the alternator… Does that mean it is my alternator? How accurate is a stethescope? Also, the battery was dead and we jumped it… Not sure if that matters… Any ideas?
