Is this repair worthwhile?
I have a 1994 Ford ranger pickup. It is in real good shape, only a bit of rust, and runs good. The only problem is an oil leak on the garage floor-a couple small spots on the floor every couple days.
Mechanic says one valve cover gasket is leaking, and so is the head gasket-but not as bad. He said it would be cheaper to only do the valve cover gasket, which accounts for most of the leakage, but since he has to remove the head gasket to do that, he might as well do both. What should I do? I would like to keep the truck for a few more years. Are the leaks really no problem except for the mess, or would it be better for the truck to get them fixed?
Yeah no need to remove head gasket on order to replace valve cover gasket. And of the head gasket is not getting water get into your oil or cylinders then you should be good leaving it go and just adding coolant as needed.
WRONG. Cylinder heads NEVER have to be removed to change a valve cover gasket. You should know however that Fords are noted head-gasket leakers. The nit-wits at Ford design their motors with four head-bolts around each cylinder instead of fife or six as all other manufacturers do.
Every old truck has a few leaks.
fix them if you like or not fix them
- Where can I find a repair manual for a 6 cylinder, 1968 Ford Mustang? Haynes manuals only cover V8's and I haven't heard much good about the Chilton variety. Anyone have any good references for repairing/restoring a 68 mustang with a straight six engine? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
- How to self repair the sealing on a windshield? So I have a 2003 Ford Tauraus. Starting this fall, the sealant on the windshield has started to come up and away from the windshield. The windshield itself is in good shape, and it is not loose or leaking at this point in time. I currently have no money to fix the sealant at this point in time, so I'm wondering if there's a way to self repair it until I have the funds. Any suggestions?
- Popped out bumper repair cost? Pardon if lingo is wrong, but long story short I backed into a chain link fence and now my back bumper on one side is sort of hanging loose. I pushed it back in as much as I could and it doesn't look very bad… I'm just wondering an estimate of repair cost? I drive a 2000 ford focus hatchback with a body kit
- Safe to buy a truck with high miles and repair it? I was just wondering if it would be a good idea to buy a 2007 ford f150 with 233,000 miles for only $6,000 and just save up enough money for a new engine ($3,000-4,000 more dollars) when it goes out and have a pretty new truck with a new engine. It's a very clean truck in EXCELLENT condition, it just has a lot of miles. Or is this just a really bad idea? I attached a picture of the truck.
