Ford Ranger ticking noise after shutting engine off?
I have a 2002 Ford Ranger Edge 3.0L
I have just noticed this problem after replacing the Lower intake manifold gaskets and fuel injectors that after shutting the engine off, you can hear ticking/popping noises coming from the engine. I replaced the fuel injectors with a remanufactured set I got off eBay.
I followed the repair manual, the only hiccup I came across was removing the push rods, but I torqued those down to spec while reassembling.
The truck starts okay, it has developed a slight stutter when turning on. Sometimes it cranks longer than it used to. It accelerates fine. No noises while driving. Only when I shut the engine.
I checked the dip stick and it reads somewhere in the middle of the cross hatch, so no coolant leaks internally.
It is however, leaking from the timing cover, something that is common with this engine and it's been like that since owning the truck for a year now.
Feel free to ask more questions and thanks in advance
I have posted a video of the noise below
Added (1). i'm familiar with the exhaust popping noises when it is cooling, but this is different and it wasn't doing it prior to the repair.
Just the sound of metal cooling.
Isn't tat the metal contracting while its cooling down? All cars do it.
Exhaust system cooling and contracting. Quite normal.
Metal does this as it cools off.
Worry about engine sounds when the engine is running.
- Why won't my car start after shutting down on highway? My car shut down while driving on the highway. I tried to turn it back on but it won't start. It cranks but won't start. The battery is fine. The fuel pump is fine. I think the distributor cap isn't getting power. Can it be the ignition module? Its a 1994 ford tempo lx with 70k miles on it.
- Ticking noise coming from engine? - 1 I have a 1978 Ford Ranchero and there's a ticking noise coming from the passenger side In engine. And this car was given to me and I had my camshaft, timing chain set, and all 16 lifters changed what can this noise be? Could it be from a bad rocker arm? And what can I do to quiet this noise. I'm broke so I can't do any further expensive repairs
- Ford Ranger 4.0, 172,000 miles rough idle when starting after sitting overnight or after 2-3 hours. Starts 1st crank, idles rough 1 minute? Or so and then smooths out and runs fine. New heads and gaskets. Cleaned MAF sensor, throttle body and air intake sensor, new IAC valve, new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. No smoke coming from exhaust and No check engine light. Any ideas what's causing this rough idle?
- 2001 Ford Ranger clicks once then won't turn over, and when key is turned off, it begins making a clicking relay noise under the dash? - 1 I've had this happen before, and the last couple times I just undid the battery and put it back in and it started right up. The battery has a charge, the alternator is new, and I tried jumping the battery just in case. So I know it's not that. I'm thinking it could be something in the ignition switch because sometimes I have to lift up on the shifter knob for it to register that it's in park and turn over. Any ideas?
