Overfilled oil by 3 quarts ford 4.6?
Took my merc to an unnamed national drive thru lube place and upon leaving noticed that the motor seemed labored on acceleration. When I got where i was going I checked the level and it was easily 2x above the "full" Mark on the dipstick. I couldn't get home to drain some and they wouldn't do it for me, so I ended up driving easily 30-40 miles with at least 2-3 extra qts.In the motor. It did not look foamy on the dipstick and no weird noises so i assume it's okay, I need to drain a little more still to make it the right level, do you think I avoided too much damage?
HI to start with How does a question like this appear here. AS the question says
overfilled oil by 3 quarts which is 6 pints in a ford 4.6 then the next Line says
TOOK MY MERC.Well what is it a MERCEDES or a FORD 4.6 as there's so much difference in these two makes of car. One being prestige should be serviced by MERCEDES the other any dealer could change the oil as it was taken to some back street bunch of IDIOTS what else would you expect but poor service.
All that will happen is the extra oil gets into the intake manifold through the breather tube that goes to the sir cleaner. Check for a oil soaked air filter and replace it and wipe any oil out of the throttle body and bellows from the air filter to the throttle body. If you get misfire codes replace the fouled out spark plugs that were burning oil.
You may need to clean the MAF sensor if oil got on the MAF senor wires.
Your entire statement has too many flaws.
"They wouldn't do it for me" WHY?!
"2x above full" that is NOT any way to measure an oil level!
" 3 quarts over full" If so you certainly have foamy oil and issues. How do you know how much over full it is?
They probably drained the transmission and put too much oil in the engine. They would owe you a transmission flush and refill, plus do the oil change over, and if your oil seals start leaking because they overfilled the engine, they are liable for that damage too.
- How to measure out exactly 9.7 quarts? So I'm changing my transmission fluid this weekend and the refill chart for my truck (1991 Ford Ranger) says 9.7 Qt. I have an old power steering fluid bottle that's 1 quart so I can do 9 full bottles of that, but the 0.7 part is what kinda confuses me. How could I get that exact amount? What's the best way to go about doing that?
