Check your wallet.

Check for…

spark plug wires not connected in correct firing order
faulty distributor cap
faulty distributor rotor
faulty or incorrectly gapped ignition points.
faulty ignition coil or broken high tension or low tension leads

Clean and regap the points, less likely may be the coil

Look for an old guy who remembers points.

1968… Yes, I agree you need help. Clean and rebuild the carburetor, install new points, plugs cap and rotor. Replace the spark plug wires one by one and do not mix them up. Check the coil, and replace it if it's bad. Get ready for disappointment that the timing chain jumped timing and needs replacing along with it's gears.

OK, dig out the Test Light… Have your buddy crank it over… While its cranking, is there power going to the positive terminal of the Coil? NO? Get some Points, and a Condenser… Try it again… YES… Put the Distributor Cap on, Lets go get a Beer

  • Would bad spark plug wires cause a check engine light? I just changed the valve cover gasket on my car. Then when I tried to start it, it started violently shaking and the check engine light turned on. The only thing I could think is that maybe the spark plug wires broke when I took them off. Pump in and a fuel pressure sensor new battery it will crank when you turn it over but it will not start. What are we miss in please help
