Knock on startup that goes away?
I have a 2014 Mustang GT with 4k miles. After the first oil change, I noticed a knock during warm startups. It goes away right away and I already had Ford check the oil filter and levels. One of their techs told me that the 5.4L do the same thing. They said with the variable cam timing it can cause the oil pressure to drop. This being said, getting a dry start occasionally. They said I have nothing to worry about and if it happens to get worse to bring it back in for tear down. I want to know if there are any other 5.0 owners out there that have the same thing happening. If so, what happened with yours? Any other advice is also welcome.
WHOA. "Nothing to worry about"… And bring it back for a TEAR DOWN? Did you get that statement in WRITING?!
After reading about the 5.4l in which the f150s used one gentleman had the same dilemma. He replaced the cam phasers only to have the problem come back. A few 5.4l owners had done the same. It turns out the timing chain guide was broken causing the chain to slap around in the timing cover. He replaced these parts but programed the vehicle to not use cam phasers. Now he has a steady oil pressure both hot and cold. And claims it is the quietest 4.3l h's seen.
- Weird Knock from Contour SVT? I have a 98 Ford Contour SVT that has an odd knock. It knocks at different rpms and sometimes it don't knock at all. When you rev the car up very quickly you don't hear it knock, but if you keep the rpms steady it starts to make a knock, and it happens at different rpms, sometimes 2k or 3k. This sound is very nonlinear with the car. It sounds like horses galloping under the intake manifold. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?
- 2005 Ford Mustang GT engine/spark knock? It seems to have a engine/spark knock at idle. I can take off and it drives fine. Oil pressure gauge is normal. Car just had a fresh oil change and air filter change. Oil is motorcraft 5W20. Car has 111k miles on it. If I turn the car off, and turn it back on the knock goes away. No check engine light is coming on. Any help will be appreciated
- Looking at trading my 2011 Ford with 80k miles in with an engine knock for a newer jeep Patriot with low miles, Roll 3k negative equity? Ford Fusion has developed and Engine Knock and another mechanical issue. Thinking about getting it repaired or trading it in for a newer Jeep Patriot with low mileage. I would have to roll $3000 of negative equity over to new loan. Any thoughts?
