1985 Ford Mustang drivers seat does not stay upright?

I have a 1985 Ford Mustang Foxbody, the drivers seat will not stay upright, it was to constantly lay back. How could I fix this without having to go find a new seat? I may have to get a new seat I understand.

Easier to swap seat from somthing newer. Than trying to weld a seat.

The seat brackets on Fox-body Mustangs are notorious for that. Cheap thin spot welds! Either the back of the seat is busted or the seat rail brackets break, sometimes both. In typical '80s Ford fashion, the power-operated stuff is more likely to fail.

If it's just the seat itself and not the seat rails, then unbolt the seat, take it to a machine or car custom shop. They can do a much stronger weld that will not only fix the seat leaning problem, but will make the car much safer in a crash.

You will have to remove the seat from the car and disassemble it to see why the lever isn't holding the seat back in place. It may be a replaceable part, it may not be. Won't know until you get it apart.

With all that work, it's probably much easier to find a new (used) seat for an 85 Mustang. Can't be that difficult. Www.google.com is your friend.
