Is it true that all cars pretty much cost the same to fix?

I'm 16 and I was talking about cars with my dad. I'm buying my own car. I told him that I just wanted to buy a regular car because high end luxury cars cost too much to repair. He said that pretty much all cars will cost the same to maintain and repair. Would it cost the same to maintain a 2006 BMW as a 2006 Ford?

Added (1). I'm just talking about luxury cars vs regular cars. Not super/sports cars.

Added (2). Could I take a BMW or Mercedes to a local mechanic?

Nope. I have BMW, Ford, GM, Dodge, Honda, and Toyota vehicles. Take the price of a Ford part and multiply by three or four for a BMW part. Additionally, many BMW services require computer programs and/or special tools to do it right. For example, a torque converter for a 2006 Ford Crown Vic is ~$130, for a BMW it is $270-500 depending on your model. Stick with "normal" cars if you want to afford the repairs.

Average cars, yes. But do you really think a Pagani, Koenigsegg, Bugatti, or Maserati are going to cost the same as a measly Ford to fix? Not even a Corvette Stingray would cost as much to take a single dent out of. Those two should cost about the same. No two different cars will cost exactly the same. I'd expect the Ford to cost slightly more, just because it's Ford.

No, historically higher end cars german cars especially (BMW VW Mercedes AUDI) have higher maintenance costs than other cars. An oil change at the dealer on my jetta TDI is $70 alone with special synthetic oil. And $125 on my BMW. The ford the jetta replaced was $30. Parts are more as well. The cars are built better and last much longer but they are more costly to upkeep.

No way.

Absolutely False! If you don't believe it get a price for a NEW starter and or alternator on any Foreign car at the new car dealer. Price a new complete engine and transmission at the foreign car dealer.

Sounds like your dad doesn't know wtf he's talking about.
