How to convince my parents to get me the truck that I want?

It has been my dream since literally first communion to get an old ford truck. My parents are worrided that the truck would break down and they will have to spend a lot of money on it. Of course all cars have problems and having to spend a little mone is invetiable. Another conern is that the truck is too long and I would never be able to drive it in the city. My porposal for that is to start driving my dads truck to get used to it. Finally they re willing to spend 10 thousland but the truck I want is 20 thousand. I can tell them I would organzie around the house and in the yard but I don't think i would be able to make another 10 thousand in the summer. Do you have any advice?

Hold on to your DREAM! I got my '92 just three years ago!

Lol grow up first, finish school, get a job, get any truck you want

Not even my parents cars cost 10k, be thankful for what you get…
Go get a job like a normal person.

I'm an advocate of drivers buying their own cars, especially new drivers. There's no other way you will learn the value of a car. My children, now grown, bought their own cars and paid their own insurance. All paid cash, of course. My daughter worked all summer to buy a Toyota Corolla that was a few months younger than she was. She paid for the car, insurance, and any repair parts it needed; I helped her with the maintenance. She is now much more car savvy than her husband. A couple months ago we replaced the drive axles on her CR-V.

Buy a 1940 Ford pickup with the V8 and the crazy two-sided distributor. Tear off the distributor wires and replace them with new ones. Don't bother writing down which wires go where, because the "Motor" manual for the 1940 Ford gives you the pattern. Only it might not be right, and you'll drive down the road backfiring like crazy until you figure out where the wires really go.

This sort of experience is the Very Best way to gain an appreciation for the unexpected things in the automotive world. You, like FlagM's daughter, will become incredibly wise about cars and trucks.

Make the other 10 thousand, or wait until you can afford it on your own.

Save your dreams for when you have your independent income. Up to then accept gratefully what is offered.
