What amount should I get a loan for?

I'm a college student an is in the process of looking for a car, I'm found one I was interested in that was for $5,999 it's a 2009 ford focus se coupe an it has 98,940 miles on it. I live in Maryland and the dealership is in Virginia. I was wondering how much I should request a loan for I can't afford a down payment so I plan to use the loan to pay majority of the car. But should I include the tags, title and taxes? An how much would it be? I plan on going to get it myself so I wouldn't get any additional fees. An I don't want to want to get there an find out I have to pay something else that I wasn't prepared for.

Most Auto Lenders will only give you an 80% loan for used cars based on bluebook figures.

You will not be able to obtain a loan unless you have a good full time job. Usually loan companies will not loan 100% of the value.

A bank will only give you the money they think it is worth so if the car is only worth 6000.00 dollars that is all they will loan.

Have the dealer write a invoice for the car,
give it to your bank or credit union.
but have a mechanic look at the car first.
and with that car the timing belt should be replaced around 100,000 miles have that checked

  • Student Loan: Pay back what's borrowed or amount spent? I applied for an unsubsidized student loan from the William D Ford program. I will be a graduate student starting school this week. I took out 12K for this fall and for the spring. If I only use 11,500 would I still have to pay back the 12K that I borrowed or just the exact amount that I spent? Also if I only have to pay back the 11,500 can I use the rest of the money($500) as part of the repayment?
  • How to get out of an upside down car loan? I need to purchase a family car, I have a 4 year old and a 2 month old baby. I currently drive a 2008 Ford Mustang that is worth about $6,000. I owe $7,710 on it, pay around $400 a month plus $170 for car insurance since I'm under 25. The car has some bumper damage, over all it's in a fair condition. I also owe $2,670 on a credit card, $1,670 on a student loan and have an emergency fund of $1,000. Any suggestions?
  • Is an auto loan the same as the amount of the car cost? For instance my auto loan is 30k, but I could have sworn my car costed less then that. Don't understand why my auto loan is so high. My auto loan is through capital one and I got my car at a ford dealership
