Should i buy a truck or keep my car?

I got a new job recently about 2 hours away. About 60 miles of the drive includes windy country roads that i have been told are either never plowed or half plowed in the winter. I'm also looking into a few other job opportunities in the same area so i may have 2 jobs in that area. Moving isn't an option either for my wife and I and i really don't mind the commute. Its located around the middle of Missouri so sometimes we get a lot of snow in the winter, but other times there isn't too much. This past winter my 2010 ford focus with front wheel drive did not do very well in the snow, but i have since then replaced the tires. I had a truck before my current car and it always did good in the snow. I'm considering getting a truck with 4 wheel drive again that way i will not have any issues getting to work during the winter. I would also like to have a truck for the convenience of hauling things and possibly towing in the future. My current car only has about 8 more payments until it is paid off and gets on average 34 mpg while traveling to work. Those are the only reasons making me hesitate on getting the truck. What do you all think i should do? Should i keep my car or sell it and get a truck with 4 wheel drive?

Added (1). Unfortunately having 3 cars between the 2 of us is not an option either and i'm really not interested in an SUV. I just don't know if the bad weather is enough to start over again on a car payment and get worse gas mileage.

If I were you I'd keep the car & go buy an older (cheaper) 4x4 midsize truck to keep around the house to haul stuff in & drive it in the winter when it's slick.

It sounds as if you have your mind made up about the truck.

Perhaps try the car when the winter comes, if it's not working out then buy a truck. Let necessity be your decision maker.

Get an SUV.

  • Should I get a new car or keep paying off my current one? I have a 2013 Ford Fusion with about 58,000 miles on it. I commute to work everyday, and my job requires me to travel, so I've really put the miles on. The original loan amount was $25k, and I have about $14k left on it. I was considering buying a different car and trading in my Fusion. Would that be a stupid idea? Should I just pay the car off?
  • Should I buy a Ford Focus Zx3 or should I look for a different car? I'm a male going to college as a sophmore next semester (this car will be my first car). Should I buy a stick or an automatic (I don't know how to drive a stick at the moment, but I'm willing to learn)? What do you think would be more fun? Do you think a ford focus Zx3 is a good car for me or do you have any other car suggestions?
  • Is it cheaper to keep a vehicle until you run it into the ground or to buy a new one every 2-5 years? I bought my used 2003 Ford Focus back in 2006. Owned until 2014. I started having to take it to the shop more often than I could afford. So I bought a newer Subaru Forester which I hope to keep for a good 10 years or more. I noticed that a lot of people buy new vehicles every few years. Is it so they don't have to worry about the cost of repairs you would have with keeping an aging car? Or is buying a new car every 10 or 15 years better?
  • I want to buy a new car under 13000,to last at least 10 years. What should i buy? I was thinking at an ford fiesta. What do you think? Other suggestions? I don't want to buy one that costs much to repair… 13000 euros
