How long will my car last?
So I drive a 2014 Ford Focus. At the moment I can't financially trade it in on a new car so I plan to just deal with this car. I've started having engine and transmission problems suddenly and given my car is 3 years old and only has 32 thousand miles it isn't spelling ten years to me. I don't think I drive rough or anything. I frequent the highway and I'm frequently stuck in traffic. Occasionally I will drive it out of town to visit my family but that's it nothing too torturous. Anyone else have a older one and how it's run for you?
My 2000 Focus when 147k miles over 13 years and was still going strong when I sold it.
What do you mean engine trouble? Shouldn't it still be under warranty?
Looked after properly the Focus should be good for around 100 000 miles and 10 years. If yours is not then you have either been unlucky or have been avoiding having it serviced correctly by a good workshop.
No one can say how long any one specific car will last.
Every car is different, even every Ford Focus. If you are having problems, you need to take it to a mechanic who can tell you about the problems, how much it'll cost to fix, and how long you can expect the car to last if you don't fix the problems.
70,000 on my 2014. Not one sign of engine trouble but have had the transmission "serviced" a few times to try and eliminate the judder from the clutches. I believe it is some kind of software update. The transmission control units have had their warranty extended to 100,000 miles.
Engine and transmission problems on a low mile 2014 under warranty are unlikely.
How do you treat it and keep up the maintenance otherwise, with oil and other fluid changes and the like? I also agree with CB and others; the car should be under warranty for those issues.
In any case, I've never owned a Focus, but I have a 2012 Mazda 3, which shared quite a bit with the Focus before the two companies ended their relationship. I've yet to have any kind of issue with the Mazda which now has 75K miles. I've also owned several other vehicles and kept them going for a lot of miles without too many issues. The highest was a Honda I sold with 240K miles, and the buyer still drives it daily. It's probably around 300K now.
So if you keep up with maintenance I think the Ford should easily make it to 10 years. If there are issues with it at this point, get them repaired under warranty, and you should be set for quite some time.
I have several cars over 100 years old and still going strong
- Why don't American cars last as long as Japanese cars? My family has owned a Ford Taurus and a Nissan Altima of similar model years. Both cars are still running, but the Taurus has very low mileage (it's a 1999 with only 85,000 miles) and the interior is in horrible condition and the plastics Ford put in have been known for breaking. None of this has happened with the Altima, even though it has more miles. Why?
- How long will a chevy silverado last? Trading in my ford ranger to many problems and issues. Anyways I'm looking at some used silverados they all have over 10000 miles on them. Are they built like toyota tundra and tacoma where they will last forever. In the 90s my mom owned a chevy caviler and a chevy mini van both had the transmission blow quickly and they leaked oil all over the place. Are the trucks like this are they good trucks
- How long, on average, does a 70's Ford ranger F150 transmission last? Thinking about getting this truck. Guy selling it has papers proving he's had work done for the transmission, but that was 15 years ago. Would I need to worry about the transmission being any good because of age? He's asking 2500, says it drives great. No problems under the hood, just cosmetology.
- How long will my 2005 ford Mustang v6 last? I have 81500 miles on it now never replaced anything other then regular maintence such as oil change every 5k and did a tranny fluid change at 75k. I try to keep rpms under 2k I have overdrive on it! And i'm not a speed freak because of gas milegae! About twice a month I'll race someone at a red light! I have a cai, headers, exhaust! I'm thinking I can get around 150k put of it before a major repair any ideas on this?
