How much is car insurance for 16 year old in Michigan?

I'm planning on buying a 2015 Ford Focus, and I'm wondering about how much insurance will be, if I add to my parents policy. Every insurance cost calculator needs too much information, and I just need a ballpark answer such as 150-200. I would like to compare full and minimal insurance costs.

Instead of asking us to guess, go get a free quote or two or three. There are many factors.

You can get quotes for free you know. If you know the specific car you want, get all information, including the VIN number. Type it on on the websites - state farm; all state; geico; progressive, and others, and see what basic insurance costs. Some of the ads that have other features may cost more, so you can always call or stop at their local office near you and break down prices even more. Some states require you to have insurance before you purchase said vehicle so you can drive it right away too, so look at your state's insurance laws.

150-200

You will need quotes for a real answer but most teens and young adults (under 21) have to pay MUCH more for insurance on cars. I had "ok" insurance and was paying close to $400 a month because I was 17 at the time (i fully owned the car)

I checked with 3 other companies in the area and they all told me if i was 22 i would pay about $100 instead its only expensive because I'm young…

i would say $300+ a month if you pay it all yourself

It's a lot. You said 16 and Michigan, so expect to pay a lot. Somewhere between an arm & a leg and holy Jesus are you kidding me would be my closest ballpark.

You do know that nobody does insurance estimates in here, right?

Sorry, but it's just too variable. All I can say is that it will add somewhere between $100 and $400 a month to your parents premiums. It's more for males than females. It's more once you are fully licensed than when you only have a learners permit, or a restricted license. It also depends on whether you will have your own car to drive or whether you will be using your parents car.

It also depends on the make, model and value of the vehicle, as well as the level of coverage needed. If it is a car that has been financed and the loan hasn't been paid off, then full coverage is mandatory. It depends on how far you drive to school or work. It depends on where you live and go to school or work, and where the car is usually going to parked during the day and at night.

That's why the only way to learn more precisely how much it is going to cost is to get a quote from the insurance company your parents are already using and answer all those questions.

Every number is how much it is for some 16 year old somewhere in Michigan. More information than you gave is necessary even for a rough order of magnitude estimate, such as 50-500 or 1000-10000. It could be 50 or 10000 or any other number, depending on the information that you feel is too much.

If you want a rough estimate, ask your parents how much they pay now, and then double that, because insurance for a 16 year old is usually at least twice as much as for someone over 25 who lives in the same place (I assume your parents are over 25 and live wherever in Michigan you live). That's not going to give the level of accuracy you want, but it will come much closer than anyone could without knowing where in Michigan you live.

A "ballpark figure" would be somewhere between $1.00 and $10,000.00 for a 6 month policy.
If you need a better number or a actual premium amount you will have to ask an insurance company and give them all the information they need to determine what the premium will be.
Also… You can't "add" a car to anyone's policy including your parents policy. It JUST SIMPLY doesn't work that way. Each insured vehicle on the road today has its very own policy (except for a rare, business "fleet policy")
You need to ask an insurance agent to give you a 2 minute "insurance 101" lesson so you understand the basics of Automobile insurance.

Where do people get the idea that insurance is the same for everybody and that anyone can give
them a "ballpark" estimate?

It depends if you pay cash for this car or finance it. If cash, then can insure for the minimum which means liability only, which would (not) cover this car if in an accident, but covers the (other) car if you are found at fault. But, if you finance it, then you need full coverage which means both collision and comprehensive till your vehicle is paid off.

The policy will be in the (owners) name, so if your parents are listed as the owner on the vehicle, then your parents would have to add (your) name as the main driver and then insurance will price it as you are the risk. But if you are the owner, then the policy must be in your name.

But you live in MI which has one of the highest costs to insure vehicles, so your best bet is that (before) you or your parents buy this car, that you call (their) insurance company and ask them to give you a quote.

My guess is at age 16 and in MI, will find that you can't afford this car and the insurance.
