Engine chokes when acellerating, after washing it?

I have a 2001 Ford Focus mk1. Today i washed the engine being careful with the electronic parts and air filters etc. I removed the battery, covered the wiring and so on. After i have done cleaning it, one of my family member took a bucket full of water and threw it over the engine bay. I thought that was a wrong move but what can i do after the action is done. After all this when i accelerate, the engine will choke a bit and only after 1-2 seconds will start to actually pull the car. (hope you understand what i'm saying). What could be the problem? What should i check?

Get some WD-40. Disconnect, one at a time, every electrical connector you think may have gotten wet. Spray with WD-40 and reconnect. Wipe out plug wells. Remove air filter, blow dry and wipe all moisture out of the box. Iffin you see water in there, may have to disasseble and wipe out the ducting.
if that doen't cure the issue, then prolly gonna have to retrieve codes and find out what issue the computer sees.

Might be some water in the system somehow.
When you say 'after cleaning the engine', do you mean you had rinsed the engine with water, and had uncovered everything, and THEN the bucket of water was splashed onto it? Or you'd cleaned, and water was poured onto engine, and then you uncovered everything. Obviously, if youd uncovered engine first, then the water could have gotten inside or affected some electrical parts. However, an engine is built to allow hosing down the engine compartment such as with a power washer at a car wash. I've done it for decades and never had troubles. Except back when cars had distributors!

Go to cheap store or walmart, and buy couple bottles of fake STP (usually cheaper) and put into your engine. They've got moisture collectors in the fuel cleaner, and will help to draw moisture out, and also out of the engine while firing.
You might also get some carb cleaner, and spray it on parts that might still look wet, or might have water with them. But then, you should rinse the carb cleaner off, too, with water. But at least it's controlled rinsing.

It's hard to know without knowing what your car is.

Well, the correct way to diagnose would be to see if there are any codes in the computer. But based on what you're saying, I'd guess you have water in a spark plug well, or destroyed an ignition coil.

Nice going BTW
