Do I need an amp for new car speakers?
I want to install new car speakers in my Ford Focus 2009. Do I need a new amp / head unit to get a nice quality sound out of these speakers? I'm interested in using the Pioneer TS-A6885R

Upgraded speakers generally work "ok" being driven only by head unit power -- which is typically 10-20w per channel. But those speakers perform optimally with 50-70w rms so they will play louder w/o distortion if they're given more power.
You will probably be fine with just the stock head unit at low to moderate volumes. Adding an amp would give quality improvement if you prefer louder music without distortion. If you already have a subwoofer then start by getting a head unit with high pass filter and you may not need a door speaker amp. Pioneer head units are good with this, even their entry level models have HFP like the DEH-150MP. If you don't have a subwoofer at all it may be best to use no HPF for the full range of bass at the door speakers and the amp would be more important even if you don't upgrade your stock head unit. For a door speaker amp check out Alpine KTP-445U. Super easy to wire up and hide away and more than enough power.

I have 2 12in subs in a box and a 400w amp, they will be in an 03 ford explorer if that matters and i can't currently get specifics on the system because my trucks in the shop, so what amp wiring kit do i need?
