Automatic car not selecting gears?
Its a 2005 ford focus 2.0 sedan
The gear lever moves but it doesn't change the gear. It remains on park even when i shift it to drive or any other gear. The gear lever also now feels abit loose and i can feel that its not seleting the gears. I recently changed the engin mountings so not sure if thats related somehow. Nothing seemed to brake, thers no funny noises.
This sounds as though the transmission gear selector cable has broken. If that s the case, the fix should be relatively easy and on the lower cost of transmission repairs. Sadly, the transmission is still going to need to be dropped, which puts your repair bill near $800+.
The linkage, which may be by means of a cable or rod, between your gear lever and the actual transmission is either broken or has come loose. Depending on what the actual problem is this may require the transmission to be dropped or may be fixable without any such hassle. Get a mechanic to look at it.
- I have a 2000 Ford Taurus Sedan that has a screeching metal on metal sound when switching gears to reverse? And the sound is there the entire time you are backing up. Does this sound like a transmission issue? Also hearing a rubbing noise in the steering, and it is a little tight, any idea what that could be? Also heater blows, but not real strong and no heat comes out… Does that sound like a difficult and expensive fix? And could the heater or any of the above issues cause my engine light to light up solid continuously? The car runs pretty good aside from these issues.
- Why can't i change gears on my manual transmission car? I have a 2004 ford ranger 2.3 4 cylinder with manual transmission. I can turn it on but I'm not able to shift gears. Is it the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder or transmission?
- What causes a car to jump in reverse when all forward gears are fine? I once owned a 1967 Ford Mustang (sure wish I still had it!) with a 289 ci w/2 bbl and factory 3 speed on the floor. I bought it used with 100k miles. It acted fine in forward gears but when I put it in reverse, It "jumped" as long as I was moving. I changed out the clutch and pressure plate twice but it didn't help. Could it have been that the fly wheel needed balancing (by grinding) or something else?
- I have a 1998 Ford Contour and my car will erratically shift gears? Check engine light is on so AutoZone plugged it in and it said "Transmission Range sensor". I bought one but where do I put the new one in? IT IS A 6 CYL, NOT A 4 CYL. I saw a youtube video for changing a 4 cyl but not a 6. Is it in the same place? Same access to it?
