What's the best, least expensive small car to purchase?

I'll be buying my first car soon. I was thinking along the lines of the Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta, Nissan Versa Note, etc. I'll be moving out of my parents house so it'll only be me using the car.

I'm looking for a comfortable driving experience, great MPG, and something cheap. Any ideas?

The best car is never the least expensive. A Yaris or Corolla are good choices.

The Yaris is a little small for a large person, and the ride is of course not as good as a larger car.

Citroen C1. It is a clone of the Peugeot 107 and the Toyota Aygo but cheaper. Very cheap to run and fun to drive. The Yaris uses the same engine but is not quite so nippy. You will also be surprised at the room in the C1.

I own a 2015 Honda Fit and I absolutely love it. It has great MPG, Abundant cargo space, a roomy back seat and a comfortable ride overall. I also believe the price was very good for the quality of my car. I really enjoy it!

Unlike the term 'least expensive', 'best' is purely subjective.

But no one says you have to buy a brand new car. You can easily purchase a 3 or 4 year old vehicle for half the price of what it cost when brand new. This way you can save yourself a lot of cash and/or get yourself into something nicer than a stripped subcompact.
