What are effective ways to get my car insurance down?

I'm 17 and trying to find the cheapest quote for car insurance. What are some things I can do to get it down and what are the best places to look?

If it helps I'm trying to get insurance on a Ford Fiesta 1.25L Zetec 2002.

Honestly, the cheapest way to get your monthly premium down is to lower your coverage and/or increase your deductibles. The risk here, of course, is you get less protection from your insurance company.

Things insurance companies offer discounts for:
Multi-car policies (sign up with your parents if you can)
Good student discounts (if you have good grades, submit documentation verifying this and you'll get a discount)
Cars less than two years old (sorry, not applicable)
Being a member of AAA roadside assistance (a good idea, but a separate expense)
Anti-theft devices

Some companies will also offer loyalty discounts, safe driver discounts, etc. Memberships with certain organizations can also get you further discounts. Here's Geico's list, just as an example. https://www.geico.com/information/discounts/organization-member/

Certain driving courses (defensive driving) can get you an additional discount, too.

1. Live in a cheap area

2. Add several years to your age (nothing much to say about that, unfortunately)

3. Take an advanced test (I'm or RoSPA)

4. Look on price comparison websites

Being a girl used to give cheaper insurance but the EU stopped that. Agreeing to a data collector being fitted will also lower the premium.

Your problem is that this is a group 7 car. At 17 Youll pay a fortune for anything not group 1 or 2

1. Move to a place where insurance costs less.
2. Wait until you are older.

Simply get as many quotes as you can stand. There's no magic insurance company or magic way (short of reducing policy limits and/or increasing deductibles… Not recommended) to reduce premiums.

UK. Answer

1 have a black box fitted if you drive well this will help.
2 add a parent as a second driver not the main driver. This usually helps
3 Park the car on your drive or in a garage at night.
4 Look at doing a pass plus course.

Drive safely and do not get any tickets or have any accidents. The first drop is a lot of money. We all have to earn our lower premiums.

  • Why doesn't car manufacturers provide their own car insurance? I always ask myself this question. Why doesn't the Ford, Chevrolet, Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Nissan, and more provide their own car insurance? It's doesn't make a lot of sense to leave the insurance duties to companies that knows little to nothing about cars. Plus, Insurance would be cheaper. Sick and tired of getting RIP off by the Geico, and State farms of the world. What do you people think?
  • What other ways can I get big money for my idea besides patenting? I have an idea for Ford Motor Company. I'm only fifteen and don't know a lot about the business world. As I have learned, the process of patents is an extremely complex thing. Even Adult business professionals find it stressful. If there's an affordable and simpler way to patent my Idea please tell me.
  • If you have a car accident with a borrowed car, whose insurance are you covered by? Okay, my dad just totaled my grandma's 1999 Ford Taurus wagon. He was trying to turn and we hit a Nissan Frontier. The Nissan was fine, but the Ford is totaled, and my dad has never been in accident like this ever before. Does this go under my dad's insurance or my grandma's? She did give him the permission to drive it.
  • How to get out of an upside down car loan? I need to purchase a family car, I have a 4 year old and a 2 month old baby. I currently drive a 2008 Ford Mustang that is worth about $6,000. I owe $7,710 on it, pay around $400 a month plus $170 for car insurance since I'm under 25. The car has some bumper damage, over all it's in a fair condition. I also owe $2,670 on a credit card, $1,670 on a student loan and have an emergency fund of $1,000. Any suggestions?
