Is Ford a good, reliable car manufacturer?

I remember growing up in the 90s, I would always hear my parents say to stay away from US car manufacturers and buy Japanese cars like Honda and Toyota.

Is Ford a lot better now? I'm specifically looking at model years 2010-2014. Anything compact, fuel efficient, and affordable. Something like a Fiesta or a Focus.

I beg to differ with Keith. I haven't found Japanese cars to require any less maintenance. I've got a Ford that is 14 years old and has had far less problems over the years than comparable Japanese cars. Cars are cars and no one has a corner on the reliability market. If you take care of it and don't abuse it most any make will give you good service. I will make one exception. BMWs are the most expensive car, in the world, to maintain.

If they were still making 90's quality cars they wouldn't have survived without taking the bailout… But they didn't.

And right now it seems like GM is experiencing it's own version of the 90's w/ all the recalls

Recently traded my 2001 Pontiac, which was very reliable despite what the closed minded think, owned it since new, for a Ford Focus. Very happy so far. Would not consider a Japanese car.

Compared to itself, Yes they are much better than before, but still behind Japanese imports in terms of reliability.

Ford F150 pickup truck. The best seller over thirty years in a row. The Crown victoria now discontinued used by the police and taxi companies. I see crown vics with well over 300,000 miles on them all the time. Ford costs a more and they make a better product. Ford did not need a government handout to stay in business like GM and Mopar! Look at all the Lincoln Town cars as well still rolling strong and with good AC compared to cadillacs that are falling apart.

The Fords we have here are not produced in the US and are far superior to theirs due to our safety standards. They are reliable as the next car and easily match the Japanese offerings.

Toyota and Hondas are much less maintenance.

Ford is not like it used to be but still they are doing good job.

  • What is a good, cheap, RELIABLE used truck for hauling a trailer? (Mowing)? It would be for my mowing and yard work business. It will also be my first vehicle as I turn 16 in a few months. I can afford around $6200 or less. I would prefer that it would last for several years, which is the Most IMPORTANT aspect. Ford Rangers are very cheap, but would they hold up for very long carrying around a trailer with a zero turn mower, push mower, and trimmer?
  • What is a good and reliable 4x4 vehicle that i would be able to get for around 3 to 3500 dollars? Something preferably kind of well knwon, like how ford had the 4.9 i6, the 7.3 diesel, the i4 they put in rangers for example I'm selling my two vehicles i have and want to put money in the bank and buy one cheap vehicle because i'm moving, where i will be living will be cold so fuel injected gasoline will be a must
  • Looking for a good reliable car/truck? Okay i'm buying my first car/truck after i get my license. Now i'm figuring a budget between 1500-3000. I'm into cars and trucks, can't afford an 1965 Mustang the moment lol. But if you guys know any good reliable cars in between that price range please let me know. Good on gas. Non expensive maintenance. Decent looking for a guy. Just throw out some name's and model's. Btw i stay in INDIANA
  • How do people distinguish one car manufacturer from another? I know so many people that can just point at a car driving by and say. "that's a Ford" or "that's a Chevy" How do they do that?
