Importing european car to USA an economically viable option?
I seen and heard that ford has a model fiesta ECOnetic thats only sold in europe and makes around 65 mpg (over 88.5 mpg now with the newer models).
I find it kind of weird that we can't get that same car in the states, so i want to ask the community if you guys think it would pay itself in the long run if i buy and import the car and modify it to meet US regulations (no point in doing all that work only to have a car i can't legally drive on the street).
What do you guys think? Is it worth the effort?
The cost is usually not worth it. But it also depends on where in the US you are importing it.
CA has much stricter standards than say Alabama.
Regardless, shipping itself is a ton and that usually makes it cost prohibitive. Unless a 3rd party is paying for it. Like if you move or something and a company pays for the move.
Getting it to confirm to US regulations would making it prohibitively expensive.
Its not so much our cars are economical as your cars are so thirsty… Mainly because you have such huge engines. With very little power per litre and main reason is government emission control. You strangle your engines with various devices.our European cars have to have special bumpers made for American market… Yet strangely your cars are cheaper than ours.by the time an American car reaches uk its twice as dear as at home… But don't let them kid you.in the real world we do not get any more than 60 mpgs in any car… But you do make the worlds best electric car… The tesla… I would sooner have than a Veyron
You going to crash 3 cars to pass US safety regulation? Given it won't pass emission either…
Power to the people.
It will be difficult to import because it will not meet the DOT safety or emission standards and expensive modifications would be needed before it could be registered and deemed roadworthy.
Get you a VW TDI diesel. Many of those will break 50 mpg and are large enough ride safely and actually haul groceries
- Which would be a better option? I would really like either a '67 Impala or a '64 Ford truck. Do you think it would be better to purchase a fixer-upper and fix it? Or purchase one in great condition? ONE MORE QUESTION: Which one do you like better- a '67 hard top two-door Impala, or a '64 Ford truck?
- What is a better option Cummins or Powerstroke? So my dad and i are buying me a diesel truck and we're both a ford lover but i also love the dodge Cummins. Which would be better to own. Both are not brand new there both used and both have a good history and both only have 150k on them. What would be the better choice? The 7.3L Turbo diesel 1997 ford powerstroke or the 2002 Dodge 5.9L cummins.
- Why are American cars to different compared to European? For example, Chevy Tahoe, Dodge Ram, Ford Explorer etc. Those kind of cars are only sold in N.America and not in Europe. Why? US cars are so big, wide and heavy! But why are they like that? Why can't you never find these kind of cars in Europe? Also, this American "stereotype", take a look at US police cars, or the NYC yellow cabs. They have that "American" style of cars which you would NEVER find in Europe
- Are all of the car manufacturers started in the USA now foreign owned? I'm talking Chevy, Ford, Dodge… All that race in NASCAR? Toyota is a Japanese car made in America… They didn't sell out to America where I believe the other manufacturers sold out to foreign countries.
