Car trade, Ford to BMW. Financially sound or stupid?

Did I do alright on this car trade?

I had a 2011 ford fiesta se with sync and power package, 5 speed.

I owed 13.7k. I know I had significant negative equity.

I purchased a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive (base). With trade, out the door, I financed 26.3k

I'm married and we're looking to start a family. We both have wonderful jobs, are not by any means living paycheck to paycheck (or even close) payments maintenance are not concerns. I was financed at %2.99 percent, 60 months.

Both vehicles have 30000 miles on them and both are in great condition (garage parked, no damage, low mileage).

Would that be considered an acceptable price? I know I'm upside down either way, but I decided I'd rather overpay on a vehicle that would hold value.

Both cars considered, is 26.3k "a good deal" or not?

I guess I'd rather have negative equity in a vehicle that holds value, and we plan to pay it off in 2.5 years, but I'd like to know if this is misguided or appropriate.

You are still about $4000 upside-down.

BMWs don;t hold as much value as you think. Expect $3000 annual depreciation. You claim maintenance is not a concern, but BMWs aren't the best cars for reliability and repairs will be significantly more expensive then domestic or Japanese vehicles. Expect a minimum off $1500-2000 annually for upkeep.

  • 2012 mustang gt vs 2009 bmw 335i coupe for insurance and reliability? I'm am wondering what would be cheaper on insurance but most off all what would be the most reliable please no bias, although i'm a ford fan boy you can't argue with a bmw but i hear they arnt to reliable being twin turbo v6, and also because if they arnt reliable i don't want to be stuck with expensive a## parts to buy… I'm 19 with a clean driving record
  • Ford fiesta, Audi A3, VW polo/golf BMW 1series. WHICH CAR TO PICK/buy? I have around 3-5 grand to spend inc insurance. This is my short list of cars which one would be the best. I want to upgrade from my renautl clio 2000
  • Am I stupid to buy a Ford Bronco from the 90s? Me and my sister are going to split the money for purchasing a Bronco. Are parts super expensive to replace? Are they reliable? What is a good mileage to buy a used Bronco at? A specific year you'd recommend? How much should I spend for a decent one (Has no problems, maybe just rust or wear on the interior)? We'd like to spend under $6000. Any tips? Thanks. (Please HAVE SUFFICIENT KNOWLEDGE ON AUTOMOBILES)
