Should I trade my 2005 Dodge Neon for a 1995 Ford F-150?

I don't know alot about cars in general. I do know that My Neon has 117, xxx miles and is my Daily driver. I'm in need of a truck or SUV (something with more cargo space). Someone is welling to trade me a 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer Edition Extended Cab with a 6-foot bed that has 136, xxx mile on it. It has the Straight 6 motor. Issues with it are a little rust on the rear wheels, outer sides, and the passenger side window only goes down if you use the driver's side button. Also apparently the front tank doesn't work anymore, but the rear larger tank is perfectly fine, the AC works, heat works, and from I'm told it runs fine. I plan on testing it out before trading of course. Other cosmetic issues are the steering wheel was mounted upside down so the "Ford logo" is upside down when going straight. (I'm told this is perfectly fine if I can get used to it, if not, it's probably a $50 fix at a shop.)

The question is: knowing so far what I know AND provided nothing else is wrong with it when I test it out would this be a good trade? I already know I need a hauler sort of vehicle but beyond that. I've read about gasket problems with the Neons and actually a few problems coming up I heard. I know all cars have their quarks but yeah. I also understand the drop in mileage and such, I used to drive a 1992 Ford F-150 Long bed before it finally gave up the ghost. I just want to get an outsider's opinion and if there's anything to look out for on the truck.

Do you really want a 20 year old vehicle?

I would be very skeptical of anything offered in trade for an old Neon. The 20 year old truck is very likely burning oil, and if so, I would stay away from it. Take the truck only if you can afford likely major repairs, but then you would have to consider the value of the vehicle vs. The cost of the repairs and it probably won't add up. Bottom line is that even if the Neon is not meeting my needs for hauling cargo, I would still rather have a 10-year old 117K mile vehicle than a 20 year old 136K mile vehicle on the assumption that the Neon is more likely to at least provide basic transportation longer than the truck.

In my opinion, trading the neon for almost anything else would be a good deal. You had an f 150, so you may know that is one of the best selling trucks

As you know, the F150 will get significantly less fuel performance - 9 City to 14Highway (under 70 MPH), and will perform better with a cap or tonneau cover for the bed. Significant fuel performance improvements For the F150 did not come until after 2010. With an extended cab, expect performance to be on the lower end, and freight reduction in capacity due to the short bed. The Straight 6 is a decent engine, easy to work on yourself, has plenty of room to work without busting knuckles. You don't need and electronics tech course to understand the controls and most of the inner workings of the engine. Keep it clean, filters and fluids, belts and hoses changed with due diligence, it should last a good 300,000-350,000 miles. It is worthwhile getting the larger, front tank working.

Depends on why you are considering this. Only get a truck of you actually need the utility.
