Replaced alternator and still won't charge ford f150?

Recently all dash and running lights have been pulsing and then all of a sudden it stopped and started draining the battery. I replaced alternator and it still won't charge. When I start the truck the volts at the battery stay the same no matter what rpm and its around 12.4 volts. Battery light DOES illuminate on dash. I've checked ohm resistance on harness. The battery is about 3 months old. The alternator is 1 day old. What am I doing wrong here? There's no fuse for it a far as I can tell. The fuseable link wire is in tact. Please help. This is driving me crazy. 1990 ford f150 5.0

Type/size of battery?

Ever heard of a "mechanic?"

1990 so corrosion is suspect. Consider:
New battery cables and a secure chassis ground for the negative…
Engine block ground. Clean the block where the ground attaches.
Also;
The alternator has a connector that usually has 4 wires.
One of them senses battery voltage… System voltage.
One supplies 12 volt current for the alternator's rotor.
Clean that connector with electronic spray.
They sell those connectors at auto stores.
For some reason, nobody thinks of buying new battery cables…

Find the charging system fuse. It's burned out. Change the 5 amp fuse to a 15 amp. Ford sold tons of alternators for bad charging system fuses.

  • Will the old style 10SI delco alternator charge in both directions of rotation? I built this alternator in 1985 and adapted it to my 1950 Ford tractor when I converted the tractor from 6 to 12 volts. It just failed recently. Originally, 29 years ago, I seem to recall having a problem with the rotation as far as charging is concerned. Whatever problem I had, if any, was fixed b/c it has been charging since then. Looking at the drive pulley, it rotates clockwise. Is this an issue I will have to deal with? Or will it charge in both directions?
  • Replaced cylinder heads and head gaskets, but car is still overheating? 97 Ford Taurus, replaced the cylinder head and head gaskets. Car started fine and we let it run for a while before taking it out for a test drive. After about ten minutes the car started to overheat again, coolant came out and steam came from under hood. We also replaced the thermostat. What other possibilities are there?
  • New alternator and truck still dies? So the battery is good, and we bought a new alternator, but my truck still dies when we take off the positive cable and the battery light is on. What could be the problem? I have a 1993 ford ranger xlt
  • I have squealihg rear brake drums on a Ford Focus. I've replaced shoes and drums and still squeals. Has? Anyone heard of silencer pads for the backing plates? There's a Ford TSB #15-10-5 on it, but my Ford dealer can't find the part # for them. It seems that you glue some sort of material to your backing plates to stop the noise, The dealer told me to get all new Ford shoes for $116.00. Any other tricks that my work?
