Best reliable truck for consistent long distance travel? - 1

Curious what the best either pick up or full size (not any bigger then a f150/tundra/silverado though!) is for both reliability and cheapest to fix. Also for gas mileage. I'm looking to travel around the country very frequently hauling either a camper, or an in-bed pop up camper (the one that fits in the bed of your truck), so there's that.

I'm assuming Toyota, but I've been told Fords are cheapest to fix. Thoughts? I'm looking to stay around 3-3.5k.

I had a 2000 ford ranger that I loved, it made it to 235,000 miles before I blew the head gasket in it mudding. I bought it for 250$ with just under 200k miles, put about 1500 into it on brakes bondo exhaust and other things.

If you do a lot of highway driving or heavy hauling I would recommend a Dodge with a Cummins diesel. Chevy and Ford Powerstroke diesels are lame in comparison. The Dodge gets very good mileage and will last forever. A diesel engine should be undersized a little bit compared to a gas engine where you want it slightly oversized. Diesels need to run hotter.
