Bad water pump.

Replace thermostat, staying open to much not allowing engine to heat up to proper temperature.

All cars warm up much faster on the move as the engine is working harder. However it's possible that the coolant thermostat in you car may be stuck partly open. This will allow coolant to flow around the radiator instead of the interior heater when the coolant is warming up. You can sometimes get a thermostat with a slightly higher temperature setting. This will improve heater performance. Ask a Ford service man for advice.

Sounds like a bad thermostat but if it's really cold out, sometimes it helps to cover half the radiator with a piece of cardboard because your cooling system just works too well at really low temps.

Before replacing the thermostat, I would check the blower motor. It sounds like the heat from the engine isn't getting into the passenger compartment. When the vehicle is moving, some airflow will happen even if the blower isn't working at all.

  • Truck won't start after being warm? I have a 2007 Ford F450 truck that runs well, and starts up when it is cold. But after run it until its gets warmed up I turn it off and try re starting it and it refuses to start up again afterwards. Anyone know what the problem is? Please help! 2007 Ford F450 with an engine 6.0 Turbo/diesel
  • Air conditioning won't work unless driving? I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. The air conditioning only works when I'm driving reasonably fast. I thought it was the blower motor, so I changed that but the air still does not work right. Any suggestions?
  • Why Won't My Truck Heat Work? I have a 1995 Ford Ranger 2.3 that has NO Heat. I have replaced the heater core, heater valve, thermostat, blend door & actuator, checked all vacuum hoses too. The engine seems to get warm, the indicator does not go up to normal, one hose to the core is cool. It's a nice truck except for this issue. Any clues?
  • I have a 2000 dodge caravan and the rear heat works great but the front heat blows cold? The blower motors all work fine, has new water pump and brand new coolant. The top vents in the dash blow lukewarm warm but if you switch it to defrost it comes out ice cold but the rear heat still blows super hot air. Coolant level is full. I've read about the blend door could that be the issue? Could a coolant line to the front dash be clogged? I'm a ford mechanic but kinda stumped and have never worked on a dodge.
