Where can I find wrecked cars?

I'm a 16 year old guy and I'm thinking of rebuilding a wrecked car. Recently, my dad's friend let me drive her 2014 Ford Explorer XLT. When I drove it, I really liked it. Me and my dad have always wanted a project car. I told him my idea of rebuilding a wrecked car and he liked the idea. I just don't know where to start. Where can I find wrecked cars? It won't be anything that's real bad. Just something that needs a new door or front end. Where can I find parts? I know people who can help me out with paint and repairs. I picked this car because it can be driven in the winter.

Look in the local Ebay site or local paper

You're talking about rebuilding a "salvage titled" vehicle. Because any that has been wrecked and not totaled by the insurance company is going to be fixed and on the road.

Keep in mind, it's hard to insure a salvage-titled vehicle (some insurance companies won't touch them), and you have to get the car inspected and tested in order to be put back on the road with a "salvage/rebuilt" title (check your state laws). This is usually done by pros who know what they're doing.

If you want a good starting place, check the Copart site. They are the largest reseller of damaged/salvaged vehicles, have been in the biz a LONG time, and have locations all over the place.

  • Why would people buy older foreign cars instead of brand new American cars? I see it all the time, people driving 7-8 year old Mercedes or BMWs that they paid probably paid around $20,000. They could of easily gone out and bought a brand new Ford or Dodge, but they didn't. They bought a Mercedes with over 100k miles. All worn and torn on the inside. But aslong as they're shining on the outside I guess.
  • Where can I find salvage title cars? I want to buy a late model car but, I want to get one a little cheaper. I'm thinking between a 2011 Ford Explorer Limited AWD or a 2013 Ford Taurus Limited AWD. Are there any places that buy them wrecked then repair and sell them? They have to already been repaired. I'm not doing that. I don't have time to fix it.
  • Why can't powerful cars tow like trucks can? I don't know if this a dumb question, but I don't understand why you can't, I know you aren't supposed to but why. If my 230 hp Ford Ranger can tow 6000lbs, why can't the 845 hp dodge demon tow something, it has way more hp, way more torque and 2 more cylinders. Does it have something to do with the suspension not being able to hold the weight or what?
  • How to find older cars for sale. I can never seem to find them. I'm trying to find a 1980 ford fiesta? How do you find older cars for sale. I can never seem to find them. I'm trying to find a 1980 ford fiesta?!
