Difference between the ford 4.6l engine 4x2, 4x4, AWD?
Is there a difference between the ford 4.6l engine that is in a 4x2, 4x4 and AWD. I have a 03 ford explorer Eddie Bauer 4.6l 4x2 Vin W i have to replace the engine and i would like to know the difference before I order and replacement
Has nothing to do with the engine, so if you are replacing that, you should have no issues. Generally speaking and without considering differentials:
4x2= the engine is driving only 2 rear wheels
4x4= the engine is driving all 4 wheels equally
AWD= the engine is driving all wheels, but a clutch device allows for more or less power to reach certain wheels as needed. In the 03 explorer, this should not be too complex.
Engine is the same, it's the transmission that changes.
