Ford Explorer Staring issues - Clicking sound?

So I have a 05 Ford Explorer v-8. It has been having trouble turning over lately. It would take holding the key down for a while to get it to start. This all started after some serious rain storm we had. I change the spark plugs and it seemed to be way better. The check engine light turned off but then as I go to get in the car today, I turn the key and all I hear is a clicking noise. Every now and then it trys to turn over but then clicks.

What could this be?
Does it sound like just the battery?

That's exactly what sounds like. Sounds like it's either a weak battery or one of the cables isn't making good contact.

Fast clicking is where solenoid makes and breaks rapidly. This is often due to either solenoid itself having poor contacts or battery/connections poor.
from symptoms described we likely have a combination of low battery and high resistance issues. Charge battery. Clean and check tightness of all connections.
if we still have issues? Try jump start… If that works well.replace battery. If we still get poor cranking or clicking.exchange starter motor.

  • My '04 Ford focus makes a clicking sound when I turn the key, what could it be? It's an '04 Ford focus, 4 cylinder 2.3L engine, I got a new battery about 2 months ago. 2 times recently I've gone to start my car in the morning and it makes a weird clicking sound then kicks on. It has been a little cold when it happens and I've noticed the headlights and dashboard lights sometimes dim and go back to normal when I have them on.

  • 2004 Ford, Explorer, A humming or winding sound? I'm thinking it's the front drive shaft (propeller cv joint ), because I feel it under my seat but, the boot is not torn. My question is, just how much turn play should there be? I can get an 1/8 or more either way I turn. It's not wiggly up and down or side to side, it's just the turning before the wheel itself turns. It does kind of clunk (lop sided spinning) upon acceleration.
