1996 Ford Explorer - P0401: Is it my DPFE sensor?
1996 Ford Explorer. 4.0L V6, 4WD.
I'm got a P0401 code (EGR Low Flow) and will obviously will not pass emissions because of it.
I bought a hand operated vacuum pump and applied 5 pounds (maybe inches) of pressure through the EGR valve and it stumbled quite a bit. This means that my valve is working and that the passages are clear straight to the throttle body.
My only bet is the DPFE sensor (aka EGR pressure sensor), as I have read that it is usually these that go bad and not the EGR system itself.
Yes, the DPFE is a common failure in Fords. It doesn't cost too much so try it out.
The DPFE may be bad but check the 2 hoses first. If 1 is damaged you'll get the same code. They're $10 for the pair at the parts store.
- Replaced 2008 ford explorer's wheel hub did driver side Sept 1st today replace passenger up to this point no sensor on. Also 4 new tires? I have not tried any troubleshooting do to time and just tired and want to hang with wife and kid tired of thinking lol
- I have a 2004 Ford Explorer. Possible sensor or fused replacement? Yesterday out of nowhere, my gas gauge went all the way down past E, my radio completely stopped working (I can't even see the time), and my windows won't go up or down. My check engine light is now also on. What could be the problem and how much money would it cost me to fix it?
