Weight is the number you need to be concerned with. How much will this trailer weigh, including any cargo in the trailer?

Maximum weight is?

What's in the trailer?

Your vehicle will have a tow rating in the handbook (or look online) depending on the exact model. (Transmission / brakes / etc). If the trailer and cargo weigh less than that number, you are good to go.

If you fill the trailer with bricks, then it will be overweight. Fill it with bean bags? No worries.

If you have the 4.6L engine your maximum Gross Combined Vehicle Weight (car, trailer, and cargo) should not exceed 11,000 lbs. If you have the 5.4L, the gearing is going to determine you GCVW… It could be as low as 12,000 lbs. With 3.31 gears, maybe as high as 13,500 pounds with 3.73 and the appropriate trailer towing equipement… It's imperative that you know your axle weights and make sure your trailer brakes are working correctly. The real test isn't whether you can pull it; it's whether you can stop it and maintain control. If you're going to be close to the max GCW, you might look at at weight distributing hitch to shift some weight to the front axle, if the back axle weight is too heavy. The table I'm looking at says your max trailer weight is 8,100 lbs.

My dad had a Navigator with a 5.4L V8. He towed our 30ft boat with it no problem.
