Ford Expedition Rusted-Out?

We sold our family car (2003 Expedition XLT) back in 2015 because the repares cost more than the car is worth (sold it for $4,800). I was looking for my first car (I'm 17) and I couldn't believe it when I ran across it. They are selling it for $1,300 but it has sat on the lot for 2 years. The motor back in 2015 still ran (and it atill does) and it is just like when we sold it. Here is the problem. It rusted out, and that is why we sold it. I don, t remember (nor does my father) what part it was. He says it was like the rocker panel or somthing in the front right that connected the frame to the body and couldn't be repaired. Anyone know what that part is called? I figure I can take the body and motor from it and buy a totaled Expedition for $500 for the frame and make a FrankenFord. Anyone know what part It would be?

No pic; no help

the only part that can't be replaced is the frame… Rocker panel can be done… You get a better condition one from a junkyard.

splicing two dead vehicles together [FrankenFord] is not always simple task. Best is if they are same make and model. Different years might be ok, but you have to check that carefully.

You can replace any panel on a vehicle (although some might require some cutting/welding). If it's just a matter of patching a hole, you can always go the jb weld route.

Swapping a truck frame to frame can obviously be done - but it takes a little time, some kind of rigging, and in most cases, you could just have the frame repaired easier.

I don't know exactly what you are referring to. Go look up an exploded parts diagram for the vehicle. I personally wouldn't bother with any vehicle with rusted structural parts unless I'm restoring a classic car. You can try finding the part in a junkyard.

  • How safe is it to drive a car with a seriously rusted sub frame/frame? I have a 2003 ford focus. I recently brought it in because my power steering fluid was leaking. When the guy called me back he told me my sub frame was extremely rusted, so is my frame. This all happen the first day I started my new job in which i need to drive 20mins to get too. So my question is how safe is it to drive a car that has a rotted sub frame? This new job is only 1 or 2 days a week. I attached some pictures that I tried to take from under my car.
  • Any mechanics out there? I'm trying to figure out what part this is? Its from a Ford F-150. My defrost **** the bed in my truck (Ford F-150) so my son was cleaning the lines, which were totally clogged. He found this copper fitting was totally corroded. I just need the name to ask Auto zone.
  • Hunting: They totaled my 2010 Ford Expedition. Should I get a new expedition or an Escalade? The insurance told the collision center that it is not worth it. I really like my rental 2019 Escalade that I have been using. Should I buy a new Escalade or a new expedition? We have enough for a 2019. Not getting used. We will get about $10,000 for the expedition. I'm just glad nobody was hurt.
  • How to remove broken and rusted running board brackets from a ford expedition? Took off on a dirt road in my expedition and slid into a tree. I knocked off my drivers side mirror and the drivers side running board. The brackets for the running board are rusted and now twisted with the frame. I have tried relentlessly to remove them but can't. If anybody has any ideas on how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Also need to be able to put on new brackets after removal.
