Battery overcharging in 2003 ford zx2 why?
Help Please… Changed my altenator and battery last week… Every since then my battery light has been coming on… I went and had battery and altenator tested and they told me it was a ground issue? My battery is now smoking and leaking fluid out the top… Where do I start how can I fix it? Ford zx2 2003 used altenator new battery put in
Check alternator output, engine running, w/ voltmeter. Turn on lights and heater blower. ANYTHING over 15-16 volts, regulator in alternator is bad. Just to be sure, clean and tighten BOTH ends of positive and negative battery cables, and re-test.
Test the battery terminals with the engine running with a volt meter set @ 20 volts. If the alternator IS charging properly, the volt meter should read between 13.5 -14.2 volts.
Your alternator has a *serious overcharge issue. Do not buy electrical parts from Auto Zone. Crack your phone book and find an AC-Delco distributor or parts store. AC-Delco re-manufactured alternators have a lifetime warranty. Every part inside the re-used aluminum frame is brand new.
- Amplifier connected straight to battery with on/off switch would damage battery in any way? So i did this on my ford fusion 2016 straight connected to the battery with the on/off switch but now the car does not want to start as before makes a little noise like when battery its dead but turn on after 3 to 4 seconds any suggestions? - New alternator and battery but battery still won't charge in my ford explorer 93? My battery wouldnt charge So i just replaced my alternator a few days ago knowing it would fix the problem. It appears that the alternator was not the problem. I've got a brand new alternor and when i check the battery(running car), it just stays on 12.5V and doesn't go up. I tried using it yesterday and it just drained out on me. I tried 3 good batteries already and checked if they charge in my car but they don't. Oh, the alternator came with a volt regulator.
