1998 ford escort made rattling noise then died?
So I was driving and the car started rattling loudly. It would not accelerate and the noise got worse every time I hit the gas pedal. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the car off, then tried starting it back up a bunch of times only to get the same rattling noise and the car wouldn t start.
probably worth mentioning the steering became VERY hard to turn when this started.
Any ideas? Is my car screwed? Thanks!
Added (1). OH YEAH! Probably worth mentioning also that when trying to start it back up a few times, a little bit of smoke came from under the hood…
Uhm, did you even open the hood? If not, why ask for suggestions. You need someone to look at it, and I can't do it from my kitchen.
A pulley failed on you it sounds like. Most likely an idler or tensioner pulley but its hard to say exactly without looking at the engine directly.
- Truck makes clicking/rattling noise when in 4X4? I have to use an old '97 Ford Ranger with an auto tranny and auto locking hubs at my workplace. When you turn the electronic switch to 4X4 low or high and accelerate it makes a harsh rattling/clicking noise but the truck will still move. Does this mean the transfer case is shot and I will have to live with 2 wheel drive? Since I sometimes have to drive on grass trails it would be nice to get this thing fixed if it's a simple fix.
- Rattling noise coming from passenger side possibly engine when going up steep hills, for ranger? I ave a 2007 ford ranger and recently when going up hills there has been a rattling noise that seems to come from the passenger side towards the engine or front of the truck. What could cause this? I also recently had an oil change, and they put 5w30 in instead of the recommended 5w20, could any of this be a cause?
- There's a rattling noise on my car when pressed on the clutch? When I press my clutch there's a rattling noise but when I take my foot off or put my hand break up it stops What could this be? Why did this happen? And how much will it cost to fix? I have a 2008 plate ford KA
- Noise works, but when I push it, it also makes a clicking/rattling noise? I have a 2012 Ford Focus, and while the horn works, and sounds (as it normally does), when I press it, it also makes a weird clicking/rattling noise (also kinda like a jingle sound - hard to describe). It sounds as if it's coming from behind the center console/under the center console, but it's hard to tell. Any ideas what it could be? With any answers - any advice on how to fix it? Question should say HORN Works
