Is this a good car for a college student?

I'm 19 and I was looking into getting a newer car next year. My mom drives a lot for her job. She's thinking about getting a new car (same kind she already had just less miles). My current car isn't doing so well. My mom has a 2005 Ford Escape V6 with 260K on it. The body and interior are near mint. Everything works (heat, A/C, windows, radio). It runs and drives as if it were still brand new. We've had it since 60K so I know everything that's happened to it and where it's been. She said when she gets a new car she'd probably give me her old one. I'm going on my second year of college. I know this car has at least another 200K in it. It just keeps on going strong. Would this be a good car for me?

No ford is bad reliabilty wise get a toyota

It depends on how much you drive and well you take care of it.

Have ALL fluids changed by a trustworthy mechanic, oil, transmission, coolant, brake fluid, power steering, differential, etc. Have the brakes checked, and have the engine 'tuned up' if it's due for that. In addition to new ignition parts, the tune up should include a new air filter, fuel filter and cleaning the throttle body.

It's a FREE CAR! What's not to like?

Even if you have to spend a bit of money to maintain it, it's still better than buying an old junker with a questionable maintenance history.

Well that's one tired Ford. However, it's free! Can't beat that deal.

You really can't beat a free beater car where you know most of the service history. Keep driving and maintaining it until the repair costs spiral out of control or it dies. The best place to get beater vehicles is from friends and relatives.

  • Student Loan: Pay back what's borrowed or amount spent? I applied for an unsubsidized student loan from the William D Ford program. I will be a graduate student starting school this week. I took out 12K for this fall and for the spring. If I only use 11,500 would I still have to pay back the 12K that I borrowed or just the exact amount that I spent? Also if I only have to pay back the 11,500 can I use the rest of the money($500) as part of the repayment?
  • Hi doing college work need some I'm doing a job sheet for taking out a starter motor on a 2002 ford mondeo. But there are two things i need the, The bolt torque The circuit fuse raiting I can't find either on auto data.
  • Leasing a car in college? I'm going to be a sophmore in college and was wondering if leasing a car for 3 years is a good idea. I plan on getting a Ford Fiesta for 36 months. I know I wouldn't have to pay for repairs if I bought a car used, and I would also be getting good gas mileage. Would leasing a car be a good idea or not.
  • Can i buy a new car if i only make $10k a year and a college student? My dad is willing to help me a little bit. I'm looking at getting a ford fiesta or Hyundai accent for $15k. Know i was thinking about buying a used car but i'm worried it will have lots of problems. What should i do?
