Ford Super Duty diesel engine?
Which is the best engine for diesel engine for a ford truck. People are telling me the best one is the 7.3 because it has the less problem but someone else to me is the 6.0. Please give me an idea on which is the best selection because I'm ready to purchase a used truck in a couple of months. I know these a 6.0, 6.2, 6.7 and a 7.3. I know they stop make the 7.3 in 2003, I can still find them.
That's right. It's the 7.3Liter. It's the most sought after as well. Hard to find and expensive to buy.
1999.5 thru early 2003 model years
Definitely between the 7.3L and the 6.7L, depends on if you are looking newer or older. 6.0 and 6.4 were plagued with problems but could be made right with a lot of changes and parts. Both the 6.7 and 7.3 are excellent engines. 6.7 of course being much newer is much more powerful and quieter. 6.7 and 7.3 will get around the same mileage, depending on who you talk to. 6.0 and 6.4 get a bit less than the other 2.
The 7.3L is most reliable one.
The 6.0L had a host of design flaws. They can be reliable and durable if you get one that's been "bulletproofed" via aftermarket
The 6.4L wasn't that bad, it didn't have nearly as many reliability problems at the 6.0L. But it wasn't very fuel efficient for a diesel. It barely got better fuel economy the gas V8 offered at the time.
The 6.7L is a winner, you're only going to see it on newer trucks though, it's quite powerful and gets better mileage than the 6.4L.
Ford Motor Company used a lot of different engines in Super Duty production from three external sources, in addition to the new V8-6.7 (Project Scorpion) Duratorq turbo-Diesel developed in-house and manufactured at Saltillo, MEX, for the F-250 through -550. International Truck and Engine supplied five engines: The DV420 (6.9), DV444 and T444 (V8-7.3), VT365-C (V8-6.0) and VT388-C (V8-6.4), which were used on all F-250 through -750 models. Caterpillar supplied one: the C7 (L6-7.2) used in the F-650 and -750. Cummins Engine Corporation supplied three, all based on the same inline-six block design: The 6BTA5.9-180, ISB5.9e-235, and ISB6.7c-265, all of which were an option in the F-650 and -750 but will also fit any of the F-250 through -550. The aftermarket has developed improved critical parts for all the above engines except the V8-6.7 Duratorq; Bullet Proof Diesel, Inc., as an example, markets military-grade EGR intercoolers and lubricating-oil coolers for both VT's and a military-grade oil cooler for the T444.
Where emissions are not a factor, in the F-250 through -550 my first choice would be the Cummins 6BTA5.9-180, with the International T444 as the runner-up. For the F-650 or -750, my first choice is the Caterpillar C7, the only engine in this field that can hook up, via a 12" dual-disc clutch, to any of the Eaton-Fuller twin-countershaft gearboxes (e.g. The TO-11907, FRO-11210B, or RTO-11909LL).
- Will newer model (03-07) Ford Super Duty headlights fit on a 2000 Super Duty? I was wanting to put Oracle headlights on my truck, but it's for the 03-07 6.0L Super Duty's. It's the only kind I can find that close enough to my trucks lights. But I was wondering if the headlights will fit right into my 2000 F-250 Super Duty.
- Will a front seat from an earlier Ford truck fit in a 2003 F-350 super duty if I change the seat tracks? I know the seat tracks for the front seat in the F-series trucks changed between 1997 and 2003, but I'm having a hard time finding an exact replacement for the 2003 model. Will a bench seat from another year or model of Ford vehicle fit the F350 if the seat tracks are changed? That would make it a lot easier to find something.
- How many sensors Are on automatic transmission 2001 Ford Super Duty F250? I have a 2001 f250 super duty. Trans and motor are good and strong. Motor Trans only problem is you have to manually pull it to low and shift it up manually. Need to know which sensor that could be.
