79 ford f250 460 wants to start but dies?

What it does is when you crank it over you can hear the engine for not even a second and it dies, like it doesn't want to stay on. When it dies it doesn't sputter or anything it just cranks you hear the engine for a sec and when you release the key it dies. Have any ideas any are appreciated

No it wants to die… Its a ford

Your starting resistor is open. That means there's a big resistor that goes to the coil, and during starting, the resistor is bypassed. When the car is turned to "run" the resistor delivers less power to the coil because that's the way it works. The resistor essentially allows a huge spark to be delivered during cranking, then goes to normal as the engine runs. If the resistor is open, this is exactly what happens.

  • 2002 ford ranger wants to start but won't? I took the truck threw a mud hole. Made it threw then truck stalled. I got it to start back up but it was blowing out some smoke so friends convinced me to just let it sit and dry. I did that and now it won't start at all. It acts like it wants to but just won't.
  • Car ran outta gas. I put half a gallon into it and turn it over, sounds like it 'wants' to start, it 'grabs' for a sec then nothing I tried so many times my battery wore out (old battery). Would could be the problem? No carburetor so its not 'flooded', what to do? Ford focus 2007
  • Why won't my 1990 Ford F250 Lariat XLT start? I've ben having trouble turning the key in the ignition like it's gummy in there or something, for a few days. T's been very hot lately and today I had to use both hands to turn the starter. Went to the bank, came home, squirted a little WD40 around the ignition… Now the ignition turns just fine, but the engine won't start, just makes a whirring noise. The engine has full power, everything works, but engine won't crank, just makes a whirring noise.
