1991 Ford Explorer XLT lower engine knock?
1991 Ford Explorer XLT lower engine knock? - 1
I've got a 1991 Ford Explorer XLT that seems to have some sort of lower engine knock. Still runs and drives great just driving me crazy not knowing where this sound is coming from. Almost to the tune of an oil lifter but a slight heavier/deeper? Any feedback is appreciated.
A lifter is more of a tapping noise. How many miles is on it? It could be piston slap. It could also be a crankshaft thrust bearing. I doubt it's a rod or main bearing knock because it wouldn't keep going.
It can be just detonation from bad or old gas. Also carbon build up on the pistons or out of timing can cause it. I've had all four. Sounds about the same as a rod knocking.
Spun rod bearing. Go grab yourself a junkyard engine for $150
- Will a 1999 or 2001 Ford Falcon engine fit into a 1991 Ford Raider? My Raider needs a new engine and the only engine that I can get is a 1999 or a 2001 Falcon engine, I'm hoping someone can tell me if I'm able to swap the engine over. Thanks either way
- 2005 Ford Mustang GT engine/spark knock? It seems to have a engine/spark knock at idle. I can take off and it drives fine. Oil pressure gauge is normal. Car just had a fresh oil change and air filter change. Oil is motorcraft 5W20. Car has 111k miles on it. If I turn the car off, and turn it back on the knock goes away. No check engine light is coming on. Any help will be appreciated
- Looking at trading my 2011 Ford with 80k miles in with an engine knock for a newer jeep Patriot with low miles, Roll 3k negative equity? Ford Fusion has developed and Engine Knock and another mechanical issue. Thinking about getting it repaired or trading it in for a newer Jeep Patriot with low mileage. I would have to roll $3000 of negative equity over to new loan. Any thoughts?
