Would you prefer BMW or a Japanese car?

My dad drives Toyota Corolla, and I'm sick of them because I'm almost 18, and he has been driving them since I was about 6 years old. I have told my dad to give up Toyota for now, and try something different, lets say a Honda, or any other car. Ford even, As long as he stops with Toyota for a little while.

My cousin is a mechanic, and I asked him from his point of view, what car he recommends or views as a good car. I expected him to say Honda or a Toyota. He says BMW. This took me by shock, but then again, he is a mechanic, and has been for several years now, driving different cars. He, himself drives a BMW, my other cousins do as well. But some drive Toyota Corollas

But which would you prefer? BMW or Japanese cars? I hear that BMW is better, and Japanese cars are more reliable, but I want to have different perspectives. Those who have experience with these cars, those who wish to have one of these cars. Just want different perspectives.

Added (1). BTW, just to clarify, I don't really care about cars. But I get tired and bored of having the same car for almost my entire existence on this planet lol.
I used to go with my cousin to his mechanic shop in his BMWs, just because I was interested in becoming a car mechanic, so I wanted to learn about it. He drove the same BMW for almost a whole 6 months of me going, I got tired of his BMW lol. I then developed an interest in a Kia Sorento that came into the shop after the BMW.

Perhaps the mechanic cousin likes Beemers because people who own them have to pay bucketloads of money to their mechanics regularly.

I almost bought a carolla years ago but ended up with something snazzier. From what I have heard, BMW's are expensive to maintain but got good ratings in 2015 which they don't normally get. You do realize that a BMW is so much more expensive than a toyota. I have a Honda CRV and it is a real pretty one with leather seats and sun roof and all the goodies. I don't find it exciting at all and it is a mediocre car as far as fun. But it is reliable but not as good on gas as they advertise. Personally I want a Texa Truck but when I priced the one I wanted, it was $60000 plus. That's just crazy and more than I paid for my little house. The most important fact about any car/truck is how it crashes and how likely are you to live.

Japanese brands are generally more reliable than European and American brands, as shown by Consumer Reports, JD Power, and other studies. But there's a lot of variety in Japanese cars -- Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Lexus, Infiniti, Nissan, Acura, Subaru, and Scion.

The problem with BMW and other European luxury brands is that maintenance and repairs are expensive, as is insurance. The same level of luxury can be had in a Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai for much less money -- and you get better reliability.

You go out and get a job and buy the car you want. If that's a bmw then fine if you can put up with the reliability and cost of parts. Let your dad drive what he likes.

  • Should i sell my japanese car to feel more American? One day i woke up and i realized i was born in America, so it would make sense to drive an American car. It feels more natural. I own a Honda but i want to buy a Ford. But i don't know if this is a good decision because asian cars are more reliable than american cars. Is this a good decision or do you consider this stupid, just a phase, and unnecessary in your opinion? The whole point of this is just to "feel more american"
  • Ford fiesta, Audi A3, VW polo/golf BMW 1series. WHICH CAR TO PICK/buy? I have around 3-5 grand to spend inc insurance. This is my short list of cars which one would be the best. I want to upgrade from my renautl clio 2000
  • Do You Prefer Long or Short Bed Ford Truck? I've recently noticed that Ford F250/F350 trucks with 4 doors and w-wheel drive, around 2008 or so, look very good with short or long beds. In fact, I think it's the only truck of any make that looks good with a long bed. Do you guys agree that this truck is the only truck that looks great with a long bed? I want to buy a Ford truck so bad. I'm sick of Dodge and Chevy.
