Why is the Fuel Tank underneath the back seat inside the cabin on the Nissan Altima?

Shouldn't the gas tank be located underneath on the outside of the car? Why does Nissan put it inside? Isn't that dangerous? It's like Ford Pinto all over again.

The fuel tank has to go somewhere, and at least this one is in a protected location where it is not so likely to get damaged in an accident. The Pinto gas tank was right in front of the rear bumper, and could easily be crushed or punctured in a rear-end collision.

Gas tank is outside and under the car, you are referring to the access point for the fuel pump. The tank is sealed and safe.

Be glad it is not a 68-72 Chevy/GMC truck, gas tanks were located inside cab behind the seat…
