Why does Chevrolet look so Asian?

The design choices of interiors and exteriors on their cars do not look American, they look like some Japanese car like Hyundai. For example let's look at Chevy Volt, outside it look like an old Civic/Elantra and the interior looks terribly similar to Hyundai design. It seems pretty weird to me, as America is mostly a white country which is related to Europe, but Chevrolet produces some Asian styled cars. Ford, for example, looks European, so do many other American manufacturers. Is there any reason for that kind of car design?

Hyundai is a Korean car company, not Japanese.

Because they are attempting to emulate Asian automakers such as Honda, Hyundai, etc. The Japanese and Koreans have been kicking their butts for more than two decades.

" America is mostly a white country"

False perception. American is actually made up of 51% ethnic minorities.

Ever hear the phrase "Success breeds imitation"? It's an old adage in the car business. When designs aren't selling well, copy the ones that are selling well.

They don't look asian to me

Hi simple all american boy costs are such in the automobile business that where you can find parts that are universal across the world it makes sense to buy them in. So hence the japanese and chinese influence with parts of a car which might look like being american built but has lots of parts from across the world. Seats made in thailand and steering wheels made in spain as wells electrical parts made in the united kingdom.
all motor manufacturers want to make a profit so they buy in parts from across the world.

Most car designs today, regardless of manufacturer, are strongly based on and tied to aerodynamic performance. Better aerodynamics = better highway fuel economy, and all manufacturers are facing government regulations (and market pressure) to produce cars that get better fuel economy. There are only so many ways to achieve optimal aerodynamic performance within the scope of all the other regulations any car design must meet, which is why so many cars from so many manufacturers look similar today.

It's also true that "Asian" cars sell well in the USA and generally have a good reputation, so it only makes sense that other manufacturers (like Chevy) might imitate their design language in the hope of selling more cars.

You are aware that Chevrolet bought the Daewoo brand and sells Korean-made cars, aren't you?

Cars such as the Chevrolet Captiva, Impala, Orlando, Aveo, Lumina, Cruze, Optra, Nabira, Sonic, Colorado are built (or have been built) in the Far East. You don't thank that would influence Chevrolet's designs at all?

FORD copied the front end from the British Aston-Martin when they owned that brand several years ago, and applied the look to the rest of their cars. Chevy is apparently following the Japanese/Korean style because they think that more Americans want that style.
