Why do some Hyundais have US government plates? I always thought only American cars like Ford, Chevy, and GM only have them?
Why do some Hyundais have US government plates? I always thought only American cars like Ford, Chevy, and GM only have them?
They're owned by the government.
Governmental license plates are only issued to official US government agencies, regardless of the brand of automobile.
Ford, Chevrolet and GM are all multinationals manufacturing cars worldwide. Plenty of Chevys are just rebadged Korean Daewoo models. Plenty of "foreign" brands like Toyota, Honda, and BMW have been manufacturing cars in the USA for decades.
Point being: your own definition of what you think are "American" cars is very out of date.
Hyundai are definitely Korean, but that doesn't stop your government from buying them if they save your tax dollars by doing so. Trumponomics mean that may happen less often in future, but they'll still be buying Mexican manufactured Fords and GMs, and Korean Chevys.
What's more American than Montgomery, Alabama?
They have US Government license plates because they are owned and operated by the US Government. Some Hyundais ARE "American" cars because they are designed and manufactured in the USA. Lots of "American" cars are built in Canada or Mexico.
Because Hyundai makes cars in the USA… Unlike GM and Ford who make cars in Mexico.
They are owned/leased by the government
No. Many Hyundais are built in Alabama so qualify as US built.
When the government needs cars - it gets a fleet of 1000 cars - so bids are put out by the various automotive manufacturers to supply those cars and the government uses your tax dollars wisely and usually buys the "cheapest" Bid. That is called "Competitive bidding" Getting the most bang for the buck.
(If they did not do that, then they would all be in Rolls Royce(really spendy cars & "eff" the public tax dollar).
BUT Public opinion STILL MATTERS in a democracy where Joe Public "foots" the cost.
- Why would people buy older foreign cars instead of brand new American cars? I see it all the time, people driving 7-8 year old Mercedes or BMWs that they paid probably paid around $20,000. They could of easily gone out and bought a brand new Ford or Dodge, but they didn't. They bought a Mercedes with over 100k miles. All worn and torn on the inside. But aslong as they're shining on the outside I guess.
- Why don't car companies remake some of their classic car models if people like them so much? Of course safety is in mind because everyone would freak out if they didn't have a seat belt and air bags in every inch of the car, but why can't some of the companies just remake their best selling car models? Dodge could remake their 1948 Sedan and Ford could remake their 1949 Custom. I could list more but I can't think of any more classics.
- Why do some companies like Ford have a 5year warranty and others like Hyundai have a 10year warranty? Does the company with the longer warranty trust in their product longer? Or they know that the owner will have to do a ton of repairs and without a back up no one would ever buy them?
- Why did Trump say of Dr. Ford: I thought her testimony was very compelling, looks like a very fine woman and was a very credible witness? I thought her testimony was very compelling, and she looks like a very fine woman to me. A very fine woman. It was incredible. It was an incredible moment, I think, in the history of our country. But certainly she was a very credible witness. She was very good in many respects. https://www.c-span.org/video/?452222-1/president-trump-reacts-calls-delaying-vote-kavanaugh-nomination
