Why do fords small sized engines make more power than chevy s?
I have a 67 impala with a 283. And I was looking at a spec sheet for different motors from ford of that same year and saw that fords 289 makes 271 horsepower while my 283 only makes 190 where this extra power coming from?
The Chevrolet 283 cubic inch engine was built in several different configurations between 1957 and 1967. Depending on whether the engine was set up with a single carburetor, dual carburetors or fuel injection, it could produce anywhere from 185 horsepower to 315 horsepower.
The Ford 289 "Windsor" engine was also built in several configurations with different carburetors and compression ratios which gave horsepower ratings from 195 to a supercharged version in a Shelby GT350 Mustang that was rated at 390 horsepower.
The 289 / 271 hp was a performance package used in some Ford models which had a better cam, heads, Holley carb etc, to produce more power than a less tuned, stock engine. Chevy as well had such packages on small V8 engines in the 50's and 60's like the 302 Z28 Camaro rated at (really underated at) 290 hp… Or dual-quad carbs and a high-lift cam in '57 Corvette rated at 270 hp from 283 engine… Or Fuel injected 283 engines rated at 283 hp in 57 Chevy's.
It's just a matter of added proper parts and tuning to achieve higher hp and torque and many engines from both Ford and GM were developed along those lines.

Its an old engine. They did not have the technology then like today.in the last ten years engine spec has really shot up.over here in Europe we have 2 litre motors that make 400 bhp… That's 200bhp per litre.American cars struggle to make 100… To much anti smog etc… FI cars produce over 800 bhp for less than 2 litre… We have a 1600cc car that's faster to 100 than a Bugatti…30 years ago I was in California.made friends with a guy call al Gordon. He owned car parts stores… I told him then… If you guys don't shape up the Japanese cars will flood America and your own manufacturers will go out of business… No chance! He said… Well just look on the streets now. You guys only make one good car the tesla.that's a brilliant car.body shuts a bit iffy. But you need today to upgrade your engines… A common type over here will be all ally.twin overhead cam.4 valves per cylinder turbo. As fast as a Porsche cross country. And at least 50mpg.driven hard… Come on America.catch up you are capable

- Why are there more 70s and 80s chevy trucks than fords around today? I'm not trying to say ones better just a question did chevy make more than ford or something? I see alot of old chevys driving around my area and some fords but i never see dodges at all maybe one or two every once in a wile

My car payment from Ford is due every 15 of every month, but I was wondering if I could make more than one payment per month. Lets say if I make 6 payments in one month of 100 dollars on top of the monthly payment due on the 15 of every month, is that allowed by ford, or do they charge a fee for making extra payments on their car loans?
- How to make my '67 ford 352 v8 rumble more and idle more rough? So I have flowmaster super 10's on it, I've lowered the idle to about 650-700 rpm. It just doesn't sound like I want it to. I want it I sound more drag car like. More like a race engine. Is there anything I can do?
