Why did Hennessey use an LS engine for the Venom GT?
Why didn't he just use a Ford engine? Is he really that cheap?
The LS is lighter and more compact, which opens up more possibilities for mounting location, less complex than a Coyote or modular engine as well.
I would guess it is because he has a brain.
The underlying platform is from the Lotus Elise/Exige, not the Dodge Viper. Viper = Front Engine, Venom/Elise = mid engine.
I think fodaddy has the answer - it was a space thing. The GM engine is OHV where the engines he might have sourced from Ford would have been DOHC, the heads take up a lot more space. Plus it's a proven drivetrain - why not?
Why do you ask about using a Ford engine, considering the chassis is a Dodge Viper?
"Gray Area" is correct.
LS engine is superior to anything he could get from Ford.
- What type of engine oil and transmission fluid should i use for a 72 ford maverick? I bought a 4 door, straight 6 cylinder 72 maverick for $500, (it wasn't runnin is why it was so cheap), just got it runnin, (i replace the fuel filter & fuel pump), it needs an oil change and it need transmission fluid and i wanna know what type of oil and transmission fluid to buy for it
- Can I use synthetic in a brand new engine? I just rebuilt an engine for a 91 ford ranger 2.3L. My manual says to use 5w-20 conventional but since there have been some advancements in the synthetic oils since the 70's, do I need to worry about seal swell or shrink? My instinct is to just use conventional to play it safe, but I'd really like to use synthetic. I'm reading conflicted information…
- I use the correct oil in my car, the engine overheats, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat? Hi, I use the correct recommended oil in my car, the engine can overheat, can short journeys make the oil thin and overheat or is the a fundamental problem with the engine? I have a 2007 Ford Fiesta
- Do ford use the same engine blocks for different size engines? I know some car manufacturers use the same engine blocks for a 1L all the way up to 2L but obviously with different size bore holes for the pistons. Does anybody know if ford use the same engine blocks on there new fiesta, MK7 59 plates, from 1l up to a certain size. I look at my block which is a 1.4 and it looks rather big for a 1.4 engine. reason i ask is i'm thinking of putting some more power behind my car, and just want to know how much block i have, and how strong it is.
