Where do you hook the battery charger to jump start 2007 ford E-450?

Have a 2007 ford E-450 box truck. Battery is dead and wondering were you hook the charger to jump start the battery.

Generally speaking, chargers are not designed to START a car. They're intended to soak a battery with voltage. When the battery is sufficiently saturated (charged) then the battery is ready to start the car. Others have already explained this, and to a large degree I agree with them. However, there ARE battery chargers that are designed to deliver high current with the purpose of getting a vehicle started much faster.

Most chargers are typical 2 amp chargers. They take overnight to charge a battery. Some battery chargers are higher amperage, but they also are not designed to "Jump Start" your car. However, there ARE chargers that are capable of doing exactly what you ask. Here's a link to a booster / jump starter for about $60 US.

They DO exist.

Chargers will not "jump" your battery, Kyle. It's a charger, not a jumper. Hook it up, get some sleep, and fire it up in the morning.

Easy answer - you don't! The charger is made to charge the battery, not to jump start it

Red goes to the positive + terminal of the battery, black goes to the negative - terminal, or to metal grounded to the battery. Unless you've got a charger with a start-booster feature (read the instructions) you'll be waiting a while for the battery to get a useful charge. Don't spend much time seeing if it will start, that will set you back a bit.

Positive jumper cable to the positive battery terminal and negative jumper cable to any metal spot on the engine or frame the clamp will grab on to. You could also just clamp it to the negative terminal on the battery, but they say there's a slight risk of either damaging or destroying the battery doing so because the current could potentially ignite the hydrogen gas that gets produced while the battery charges if the cable were to spark on the terminal.

You connect the cables from the battery charger to the posts on the top of the battery, but you can't "Jump Start" a completely dead battery from a standard battery charger.

IF the battery is actually capable of taking a charge, It will require several HOURS to build up enough charge in the battery to allow it to start the engine.

You need to change the battery first before trying to start a motor with a completely dead battery. You can fry the alternator when starting a motor with a dead battery. It's best to charge a battery at the battery posts after cleaning the cables and battery posts.

You connect the cables from the battery charger to the posts on the top of the battery, but you for the life of me can't "jump start" a completely dead battery from a standard battery charger…

if the battery is actually capable of taking a charge, it shall require several hours to build up enough charge in the battery to allow it to start the engine…

Chargers are designed to jump start a truck or car if they have the booster designed into the charger other wise it is for trickling charging the battery.

You don't.

You get the help of someone that knows what they are doing.

You are dealing with a system that has sufficient electrical power to weld or burn holes in steel.

  • How to remove the rear bumber on a 2006 ford f 450? Can you guys give me a link or a video on how to preform this process i can't seem to find any website telling me how to do this
  • Ford F 450, 1997, gas gauge works, but switch won't go the second rear tank? I replaced the switch same thing, only reads front tank and rear tank stays full. I had the solenoid replaced on the frame 15 months ago, could that be bad again, that is over $400? I have two gas tanks, front and rear. Switch won't switch to rear tank? Reads front tank only, even when switched to rear tank. I replaced the switch, cost $62. The rear tank is full, Edith. It is full because I can't access the fuel.
  • Car won't start even with jump start? I have a Ford Escort 2001. I checked the battery at Auto Zone, told me it was fine and had charge. The alternator is also good. The starter is also fine. When I turn the key there's no clicks. The lights on the dashboard stay on. Does anyone know what it could be? I've also checked the cables and connections.
