What snow tires should I put on my '68 Ford Galaxie XL?

I have a set of four snow tires from my old 91 cutlass ciera, they're 185/75R14. Can I use those?
They look to be the same size as the tires that are currently on the galaxie, but I'm not sure if that's the only criteria for proper snow tires. How can I tell which snow tires to get for it?

Added (1). I forgot to mention, the tires are mounted on wheels

Added (2). Ok I checked the tires currently on the galaxie and they say 255/60R15, but I think the previous owner may have put the wrong size on, as the speedometer is all messed up. However the tires do say M+S, which stands for mud and snow, correct? They don't have studs, are they all-season tires or something? Can I safely drive in the snow with them on?

Look at the side of the tire, you'll see the size molded on the tire. I had a '69 Galaxie 500 and as I remember it had 15in rims. Your cutlass is a GM product and your Galaxie is a Ford, the rims WILL NOT match. As for snow tires, I live up by Cleveland Ohio, on my van I run Firestone Winterforce studdable snow tires, (my grand daughter rides in the van so I can't afford a wreck) I haven't lost traction yet even while everybody else is in the ditch! Of course you've also got to consider the load n speed rating, go to tirerack.com to check out and understand all the markings on your tires

The Galaxie ran 195/75R14 tire size so the tires are close but I doubt the bolt pattern for both cars are the same.

Those tires are a bit smaller that what normally fits on a galaxie. If you have a 14" rim for the galaxie then go for it

M+S are all season tires but the tread pattern will determine how well they work in the snow. The closer the tread pattern is to the snow tire tread, the better they will be in snow. It also matters how deep the snow you drive through gets. 1-3 inch deep snow will be OK with M+S tires. Deeper than that will need real snow tires. Just a quick question. Why would you be driving a 68 Galaxie in the snow?

I probably originally came out with G78R-14 tires. You can cross it from passenger tire size to metric tire size online. If the diameter is much different, the speedometer will be wrong. If they are much wider, you may have clearance problems.

  • What oil type should I use on a 68 ford galaxie xl? I went to the auto store to ask but it wouldn't come up on his computer. He suggested 10w-30 so I bought a jug, but I want to double check before I put it in my car.
  • Can 225/70R16 tires fit on rims that have 225/70r14 tires on them? I have 225/70r14 tires on my Ford ranger. I just got some 225/70r16 tires of the same brand, Cooper, given to me. Will they fit on the 225/70r14 rims or do I need to get rims to fit the 225/70r16.
  • Do they make low profile SNOW tires? I live in Northern NY but my dream car is a Ford Mustang Cobra R. I want to get just a normal mustang and make it a Cobra R replica, but it'll be my daily driver. So do they make snow tires in low profile? And don't tell me to get a different vehicle just because of where I live. I'm set on this car and am just looking for an answer to the question asked. Don't act like my mother.
  • Will a set of 235/60-R17 tires fit a vehicle with 225/50-R17 tires currently? If they do I'm assuming there would be a MPH difference on the speedometer. Update: The 60 series set is from a 2014 Ford Focus and are stud-less winter tires. They are to go on a 2012 Ford Fusion.
