What is the fuel consumption of the 1976 Ford Cortina 1600 GL?
Just wanted to know what the fuel consumption is of the Ford Cortina 1600 GL (1976-1980), or any similar model with similar specs.
Also, are there any common problems that a possible buyer should be aware of?
Any other interesting/relevant info regarding the car would be great too.
Fuel consumption is less than 30 miles per gallon, probably closer to 25. As the car will be at least 35 years old almost anything can be faulty. There WILL be rust in the bodyshell unless it has been re-built. The pinto (which it will have if a 1600) engine suffers from blocked camshaft oil feed leading to worn camshaft.
I drove them in period and they were not that great. If you can find a non rusty little used one than go for it.
Fuel consumption. Poor and 4 star so needs octane booster or valve seat work.
Rust rust and more rust. Designed in.
Poor reliability.
Bad emissions.
Poor performance.
Poor cornering and road holding even on modern tyres.
Poor safety in a crash.
All in all not a good choice for a daily drive. Get one for Sunday tootling only.
- Tires for a 1976 Ford F150 Ranger? Truck currently has P255/70R15. I'm looking for a shorter/lower tire that is still more than capable of taking the weight of the truck. Any suggestions?
