What is a better choice for an Engine?

Ok so i own a 1966 Ford Falcon and finance is no problem right now. And i have been given a choice from my uncle to swap the engine (currently 285 V8) with either a 496 Stroker or a big step with a 686 Stroker. Yes this cars intent is to be a Racer. And Sunday Rumbler (And school Auto Mechanics class homework) down to the Details:

What engine?

Reason?

Advantages/Disadvantages?

Yes our school has student race days. Its the greatest day of school ever! We have the oldest car and the second oldest is an 86 Chevy.

I would go woth the 496 if those are your only options, it will mean less money on other upgrades and its somewhat drivable on the street

you will also have to upgrade brakes, suspension, front and rear ends, wheels and tires, driveshaft and transmission to handle that extra power and weight and be able to stop easily so you can expect to be paying an extra $20,000 or more on those things

that 696 is only good if you are running on the track only and install a rollcage, its way too much power for that car

Ford never made a 285…

Hi sounds aike it is time to take it to the scrap yard.
